Neymar Head
More

Adopted 12/2020

Neymar

Neymar is a 1 year old boy who came from a local shelter so nothing is known of his background. Neymar is a happy and energetic boy who can be quite vocal when excited or playful. He is always excited to meet other dogs and would love to have another active canine companion that wants to play play play. He currently lives with a six year old female shepherd who he adores but he would certainly like it if she played with him more often.

Neymar is housebroken with the use of a doggie door and has nice manners in the house. He knows his basic commands and enjoys any and all outings his people are willing to take him on. Neymar can be a little excited when he first heads out on an adventure or walk but will quickly settle in and can walk nicely on a leash after the initial excitement dissipates. He plays nicely and respectfully with other dogs. Due to the current pandemic he has not had much time around big groups of dogs, like at an adoption day, so he can be a little loud and overly excited when he sees a new group of four legged friends. He sleeps nicely in a crate or on a fluffy dog bed at night but he would happily snuggle up with his human if allowed.

Neymar has not been around kids and/or cats and other small critters since he has been with us. Given his exuberance, he might be a little much for smaller children.

Neymar would do best in an active home with another playful dog and people that are willing to include him in their activities and adventures.

Rayla Head
More

Adopted 12/2020

Rayla

Rayla is a lovely 2 yo Black female Shepherd weighing approximately 65 lbs. She was a found stray, so her previous life remains a mystery. On initial encounters, she may appear timid and cautious, and may gently retreat from new situations. This is rapidly overcome, however, when her keen curiosity takes over. This girl is unanimously described as Sweet and will no doubt seek your affection and approval within no time as she bonds quickly with humans.

Rayla recently lived in a household with a senior male, a playful young pug, and a confident cat whom she completely ignored. They all shared their space with mutual respect and bouts of cooperative play, and found their constant human company very satisfying. She currently is being fostered with another large female Shepherd and they get along fine, although Rayla has not engaged the other dog to play yet.

While she enjoyed her routine of daily walks, this alone did not satisfy her high energy needs. True to the finest qualities of her breed, this gal craves dedicated physical exertion. She will therefore do well in a home where she can engage in regular exercise, such as outdoor hikes, runs, extended walks, or energetic fun games. Challenging mental activities, such as Tracking or Agility, will also fulfill her uniquely keen intellect! Currently in her foster home, she goes for a 1 hour walk plus a 10 minute bike ride and she is pooped for the day. With this lifestyle, this gal settles into the household with impressive manners. In fact, she is known to retreat into her crate in the evenings on her own where she will sleep quietly through the night. Rayla corrects well with her willingness to please, and is house broken. She is also a good alarm barker.

Emotionally, Rayla is making progress as she adapts to the life of the modern world. Car rides at times are over- stimulating for her, but she quickly learns that laying quietly is a fun way to travel. Nighttime walks are an enjoyable outing, however she can occasionally become unexpectedly startled in the dark. She finds comfort in her crate while her humans are away and is learning that when they leave, they will soon return. Consistent emotional boundaries and firm guidance from her humans will allow her to develop the confidence to enjoy all that life has to offer.

Ida Head
More

Adopted 11/09/2020

SENIOR

Ida

Ida is an 8 yo, mostly tan senior female weighing approximately 75 lbs. She was found as a stray, so we do not know much about her. Upon arrival to our group, she was understandably confused and "lost", searching for her former life. Within a short period, however, she has calmed down to enjoy the company of many fellow dogs and adult humans in the home environment.

Ida is housebroken and has good house manners. She is rather anxious at times, but will slowly warm up to you with her gentle soul. While she is 'low energy', she is eager to go on walks and join you on car rides. It is apparent that nothing pleases her more than to be by your side. However, this girl needs time to adjust to those moments where she is left alone.

Stretch Head
More

Adopted 11/13/2020

Stretch

Stretch is a friendly black and tan male two-year-old, who weighs approximately 90 pounds. He was surrendered to a local shelter so nothing is known of his past.

He is the normal height for a large German Shepherd, just quite long. Hence the name Stretch. His ears have fly-strike (the tips have been bitten) which means he was outside a lot in his past life. He was housebroken when he came to us though, with nice house manners. He is quite tall, so while you are in a rocking chair he can look you in the eye. Luckily he hardly ever licks you.

She is a very loving girl that would love nothing other to have her ears scratched. Enya is crate trained and is very well mannered in a kennel. She is currently being fostered with 3 large German Shepherds, a Malamute mix, and 2 cats. Enya was a quick introduction to the pack and has ignored the cats from day 1. Alec Head
More

Adopted 11/1/2020

Alec

Alec is an adorable, black and tan 4-5 year old male German Shepherd, weighing 60 pounds. He was a stray from a local shelter so nothing is known of his past. Alec came to us very skinny and with a lot of fur missing on his tail and back end. The shelter veterinarian said he is either allergic to fleas or he has a food allergy. He is on specific food now for dogs with food allergies to define the issue. In a few months when all his fur comes in he will be looking quite dapper.

He bonds fast with his human and greets people nicely. He knows some basic commands and is house trained, but he does like to sneak some counter surfing in. He also likes car rides and squeaky balls.

Rizzo Head

Adopted 10/23/2020

Rizzo

Rizzo is an adorable 35 pound nugget of pure sweetness. She came to us from a local area shelter, so her background is unknown aside from the fact that she appears to have been hit by a car. It was determined that the best course of action for Rizzo was amputation of her left rear leg.

Rizzo had already mastered walking on 3 legs before she even had her surgery. She is now healing nicely and is almost back to 100% -Well...75% anyway!

She was aged at approximately 10 months old, but with her small stature, she is likely done growing.

Zeke Head
More

Adopted 10/21/2020

Zeke

Zeke was pulled from a local shelter and is a new addition to the GCGSR family. He came in as a stray and very little is known about him at this time. He is approximately 4 years old, weighs roughly 80 lbs and appears to be a Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix. Zeke is very sweet, affectionate, and will do anything to please his owner. He loves running in the back yard with his GSD foster brothers and sisters, but is also content doing his own thing. Zeke walks well around the neighborhood on a loose leash. He does not react to barking dogs at fences nor to the horses, goats, and chickens we pass on our morning walks. He does perk up to attention when deer and squirrels run across the road.

Bindi Head
More

Adopted 09/15/2020

Bindi

Bindi is an adorably sweet 5 month old white and blonde female weighing about 55 lbs and growing. She was found by a Good Samaritan, who tried for two months to find the owner with no luck, so surrendered her to us. Common in large breed dogs, she has pan osteitis aka growing pains in a rear leg but no serious problems. This is easily resolved with anti-inflammatories, pain meds and rest.

Bindi is in a foster home with a 3 year old large male German Shepherd, a 6 year old female German Shepherd and a 13 year old male German Shepherd and is good with all of them. If she is uncertain of their approach with her, she submits by rolling on her back. She had previously been kept as an outside only dog, but she prefers the cool house, comfy beds and to be by her human.

Sinead (pronounced sha-nayd, like the bald singer Sinead O'connor) is a red and black cute female, underweight at about 52 lbs. and almost two years old. She was a stray from a local shelter, so nothing is known of her background.

She was extremely underweight and missing a lot of her fur when she first came to us. She has had at least one litter of puppies. Once her hair fully returns (will likely have a plush coat) and she gets to a healthy weight, she will be stunning. Despite her rough start, she has the sweetest disposition and is a happy girl.

Miela

Miela (My Ella) is a cute and happy female Belgian Malinois (mostly) who is a very young 10.5 years old. Through no fault of her own, Miela was returned to us when her family could no longer keep her.

She is an extremely well-mannered little girl who her foster dad just loves. Miela will engage in play with other playful dogs and her foster dad, and has gotten along with all the dogs, large and small, that she's met. However, she does not like the energy of the 3-4 month old puppy that comes to visit and will go to her crate to be safe from the puppy monster.

Miela walks perfectly on lead, knows basic obedience commands, sits and waits to be fed, is crate and potty trained and is fantastic in the car.

Mikey Mike Head

Adopted 07/31/2020

Mikey Mike

Mikey Mike is a year old all black male weighing 65-70 lbs. He was a stray from a local shelter, so we have no background information on him. He was brought to the shelter in February with a broken right femur. He was lucky to be accepted for surgery at UC Davis and his leg was repaired on 3/11/2020. Despite his injured leg, Mikey Mike can be very bouncy and loves to play.

He's a lovable boy who enjoys hanging out with the other dogs, sometimes more than his people. He really seems to enjoy cats and tries (gently) to play with them. He tends to get very antsy when he's hungry.

Stetson

Stetson is a handsome, 10-12 month old youngster. His black and tan fluffy, long coat makes him appear larger than his 70 lbs. He was a stray from a partner shelter, so we know nothing of his background.

This happy-go-lucky boy is still very much a pup at heart. He likes to turn everyday activities into a game and loves any interaction with his human, whether it be playing a game of fetch, playing with a stuffed toy, or just chilling at his foster mom's feet. He occasionally tries to play with objects he finds interesting, but will easily re-direct when told 'no' and given an appropriate toy.

Kessi Ann is an intelligent, loving, black and tan female, approximately 7 yrs old and weighs 68 lbs. She was originally a breeding dog, however not much more is known about her past. She was brought to us by a good Samaritan who rescued her from the breeder.

Kessi has had good house manners in her foster home and is fully housebroken and knows how to use a dog door. She absolutely loves to go on walks and short hikes (~5 miles) and is a joy to walk with. In a short time, she has learned to enjoy her dog beds and stay off the house furniture, although she will do her best to sneak accessible yummies off the counter if you're not watching! Merlot Head
More

Adopted 07/16/2020

Merlot

Merlot is a tall, handsome 18 month old male weighing 88.6 pounds, and could use to put on a few more pounds. His ears never stood up, so he has those cute floppy puppy ears. He was initially adopted from our rescue at 4 months old. His owner surrendered him back to us due to her medical limitations, to ensure he gets the proper care and exercise he needs.

Merlot loves to go on walks and being with his people-he shadows his foster mom around the house and yard. He heels well on walks and is working toward ignoring other dogs (starts to pull a bit but corrects fairly easily). Counter surfing seems fun to him, but we are working on that bad habit. He lived with cats and an older female shepherd and likes to play with other dogs. He does know how to fetch, but has not yet shown that much interest for more than several minutes at a time. He very much wants to please, wants to learn, and loves treats.

Jennings is a handsome, sweet one year old black and tan male who was surrendered to a shelter along with several of his litter mates. Although this sturdy boy weighs in at around 80 lbs, he still may have a bit of growing to do.

Jennings is overcoming his lack of socialization and seems to be loving his life as a house dog! He uses a doggie door to go outside and sleeps nicely next to his foster mom's bed. He initially was afraid of the crate, but now that he's familiar with his surroundings, he may be more accepting of being crated. He was picked up by authorities after evading Animal Control officers for a couple hours by jumping fences through several backyards. Merc is an energetic athletic boy who can be a bit mouthy when excited or protesting. He will pull if given the chance, so a correction collar such as a prong collar is needed when walking him. He is very amenable to corrections, and is eager to learn, but does need a handler who is clear with expectations. She does exert her dominance over the small dog, so she requires supervision when they are together. She is still in need of lots of chew toys and is learning not to counter surf.

Jaxton Head

Adopted 05/08/2020

Jaxton

Jaxton, aka Jax, is a 2 year old, 85 lb Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix that came to us from a local shelter. Jaxton was originally surrendered by his previous owners because he was barking "too much" in the backyard. After sitting on the adoption floor and being over looked for a month, he was pulled by rescue.

Jaxton is being fostered on a 40 acre ranch with 3 other large breed working dogs. Jaxton tested well with other dogs at the shelter and has been fine with his foster siblings. Jaxton likes the constant company of his foster mom and has a strong willingness to please. While doing yard work or just walking around the property, he always stays in sight of his humans and checks in often.

Trinity Lynn is a cute black and tan 9 month old female who weighs about 50 lbs. She was a stray from a local shelter so we have no background information on her.

This girl is housebroken and uses a doggy door. She knows the sit command and is pretty good with the "leave it" command. She is learning house manners but is having a tough time with the off command, will jump on people in excitement and is still very mouthy. For these reasons, she should not go into a home with young children or with people unstable on their feet.

Boson Head
More

Adopted 03/14/2020

Boson

Boson (Boe-Zawn) is a sleek handsome black and tan male, approximately 3 yrs old. He currently weighs 63 lbs but can use a bit more muscle mass. As a stray, we know little about his past although it is apparent he has had some training. He readily sits and poses in the down position upon command, and has very good recall. He is very motivated by food and will wait patiently for his treats with lovely gentle manners.

Initially timid in nature, Boson has slowly learned to appreciate the company of all humans. In fact, he will "hang out" with the human pack and show little interest in walking away. On occasion, he gets frisky and tries to hop on your lap, but he is learning appropriate boundaries. When he is happy, he becomes a bit mouthy and responds to replacement toys. He eagerly goes on car rides where he enjoys his nose out the window. Bo will eagerly sit while you leash him for his daily walks.

Even after under going an amputation of her leg she is an exceptional girl! This is one resilient girl, has adapted very quickly to becoming a tripod and is very happy on three legs. At 50 lb Carly Rae is on the smaller size. Maintaining a healthy weight is beneficial for her and should include a high-quality protein diet.

Currently, Carly Rae is living with large males/female German Shepherds. She always gives each dog kisses, plays tug, and will join in a game of chase. Sometimes she will get really excited and pick up a shoe but will release it on command.

Adopted 01/25/2020

Modric

Modric is a stunning, dark sable, adult male who is on the smaller side weighing about 60 lbs. He was surrendered when his owner could no longer care for him. We believe he sired both Luis and Clark, two other boys that made their way to us. It is our understanding that Modric was an outside only dog, but he has quickly discovered there is no better place than inside with his people. He loves to settle in on a nice soft bed, preferably near his human, when hanging out inside. He prefers to be wherever the people are inside, but watch out for your shoes; after spending most of his life outside he hasn't quite learned that shoes aren't for chewing.

Modric is housebroken with the use of a doggie door. He easily settles into a crate and is happy to sleep quietly for the night in a crate next to his foster mom's bed.

Flynn

Flynn is an exuberant, lively boy that is about a year old. This handsome black and tan boy is from the local shelter, and although not much is known about his background, he seems to connect well with people, is eager to please, listens well, and responds to light corrections. Flynn walks well on leash, rides well in the car, is housebroken and sleeps in a crate at night.

His enthusiasm and mouthiness require someone that can commit to learn what it best takes to manage him so that he can learn his role as a dog and family member. Initially, redirecting Flynn's busyness of picking up and moving items on the floor of the house and garage to a rope toy or a Kong helped him learn what is on and off limits, although now he knows and his foster family simply has him drop items that are not his. Currently, the foster family is teaching him to put away his dog dish when he is finished with a meal instead of tossing it.

He was surrendered to a shelter along with Spark, Havanna and another male when the original owner lost his home. Judah is possibly the sire of the other three white dogs. The previous owner indicates Judah had been an outdoor only dog.

He is one very, very sweet and nice boy! He walks well on a leash, is crate trained (he really doesn't like it) and learned the use of the doggy door within minutes of showing him where it was. As with the others that were surrendered with him, Judah craves human attention but is not obnoxious about it. He has learned that indoor living is the best and has learned to have impeccable house manners. Also, Judah loves to swim and fetch sticks and balls thrown in the lake.
