Alana Head
More

Adopted - March 2021

Alana

Alana is a stunningly gorgeous, black German Shepherd, about one year old. She has a small spot of white on her chest.

She is timid in new situations, with new people, and with new dogs because she lived solely in a backyard with no socialization. She is a happy, sweet girl once she becomes comfortable.

Alana needs to be exposed to new things and people on a regular basis and given positive reinforcement to help her gain confidence. She is learning house manners and how to interact appropriately with other dogs.

She has low prey drive and may be able to live with friendly cats.

Atnas Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Atnas

Atnas is an approximately 3.5 years old black and tan handsome male who was originally adopted in 2019 and returned when his owner could no longer keep him. His name is Santa spelled backwards since he was rescued at Christmas time. He is approximately 20 pounds overweight at 93 pounds now and is used to being free fed at his last home. He is in a foster home now learning to only eat at meal times. He sits nicely for his food and waits until he gets the command to eat. He heals nicely and has nice house manners. He easily jumps into an SUV with enthusiasm and is very well behaved in the car.

Atnas is living with another male and a female German Shepherd and plays well with them. His last owner said he is good in the house while his humans are away. He has medium energy and doesn't beg for food while you are eating. He is good with kids and dog-savvy cats.

Banner Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Banner

Banner is a Black and Tan male born 3/1/21 and likely mixed with Labrador retriever. He was surrendered with siblings Bean, Blu Boy, Buckee, Hennessy and Tanqueray.

Banner looks over his siblings and wants to do whatever they are doing, always ready to chase the ball or race across the backyard. He's also the best walking on a leash so far.

He's being fostered with three adult dogs Bean, Blu Boy and Buckee who all survived the parvovirus. These four pups are almost housebroken and crate trained.

A home with puppy raising experience that will continue training and socializing would be ideal. Having another well behaved dog would be preferred for Banner's forever home.

Chadwick Head
More

Adopted - November 2021

Chadwick

Chadwick is a one year old boy with a very dark sable coat that appears mostly black. He came from a local shelter so nothing is known on his background. We believe he is a Malinois and Shepherd mix, and like most Malinois, he is very attached to his human companions. Chadwick really wants to love and please his human companions so he is willing to take instructions and learn new commands as long as he can remember while managing the excitement of life as a one year old pup.

Chadwick has nice house manners and is house broken with the use of a dog door. He is happy to go explore outside so long as he knows he can come right back in when he likes. He sleeps well in a crate so long as his human stays there with him. He loves car rides and walks well on a leash; if he gets over-stimulated on a walk, a quick but firm correction helps him settle right back in so that everyone can enjoy the rest of the walk.

Champagne Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Champagne

Meet our latest refreshing spirit, Champagne aka Cham. She is a 1 year old white, gray and black female German Shepherd/Husky mix weighing approximately 65 lbs. As her name depicts, she displays soft hues and an effervescence that will bring smiles to any day, rain or shine.

This gal comes with a feminine nature that, at times, appears initially 'uncertain'. When surrounded by multiple dogs, she may vocalize her uncertainty. But with guidance and calm leadership, she rapidly engages in appropriate canine greetings. In her foster home, she enjoys the company of two male Shepherds with whom she plays on a regular basis. In fact, she appears to find pleasure in leading them into her winding game of chase. She knows when she can outwit them with her agile physique and athletic skill. Her cohorts are left perplexed as they appear resigned to her unsuspecting influence. I gently remind them, 'That is what Champagne does'.

Cham has no hesitation to greet any and all humans with her soft velvety coat and welcoming eyes. One 'hello' from an admirer may invite her to jump up for a hug. This is diminishing with gentle corrections; however, caution with young children. She enjoys her daily walks and is learning to walk well on a leash. And just watch her bubbly dance while playing fetch with a ball! It's free fun-filled entertainment for all. Car ride? She's in.

In the home, she is your typical Shepherd female with excellent keen house manners. She'll enjoy any opportunity to relax on her soft bed or indulge in soft pets and words of endearment. She is housebroken and sleeps calmly in her crate at night. This gal will surely make a warm addition to a loving home. She is a reason to celebrate.

Cruella Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Cruella

Cruella is a pretty 5 month old tan female Belgian Malanois who loves to play and be near her humans. She can be somewhat rough while playing with other dogs, but never to the point of hurting.

Cruella is very affectionate who really enjoys crawling into a warm human lap and receiving all the attention she can get. Although she may do okay as an only dog she will thrive with another younger playful pup to keep her intensity on play and not destruction.

Dashell Head
More

Adopted - March 2021

Dashell

Dashell aka Dash is an approx. eighteen-month-old black and tan male who came from a local shelter as a stray, so there is nothing known about his background. He is a sweet boy who is still all puppy in personality. When he first came into rescue, this boy chose his canine pack mates over human companionship. Initially he would shy away from people, and when humans came around, he would play 'chase', much like a child having fun. He was always comfortable around the other dogs, and little by little his curiosity and desire to be 'one of the guys' led him to seek attention from his foster family along with his pack mates. He has progressed from dashing away from human touch, to tolerating it, and finally to seeking it out and enjoying it. While still timid, his sweet and loving side is really starting to shine through!

In the early days in his foster home, his crate was his 'safe place'. He still likes to eat his meals in his crate, but he no longer retreats there. He will sleep in the crate, but he prefers to sleep with his pack mates and can often be found sharing a dog bed with his foster brother. He is house trained with use of a doggie door and has been left unattended with the other dogs in the home while his foster mom is at work. While he has not been destructive, he seems to find great satisfaction in swiping the occasional sock from the laundry basket. He is currently living with cats in his foster home and he does well overall but does occasionally need to be reminded to 'leave it' when he starts get too curious.

Dash is very playful and loves to engage in a game of chase with anyone who will participate. He rides well in the car and has been learning about the outside world - with each outing he gains more confidence. Dash would love a forever home with a patient family to continue his socialization and a patient resident dog to help teach this sweet boy how to be part of a family.

Dotty Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Dotty

Dotty is a 3-year-old plush coat. She is a playful girl that loves people and other dogs. She gets along with the dog-saavy cats in her foster home.

She came to us with no manners. She now sleeps in a crate at night and is housebroken. She loves to play in water and is learning not to make a mess in the indoor dog bowl.

She is working on her leash manners and obedience. She works well with a little encoragement and treats.

Dotty is looking for a home with a playful male dog.

This is a Level 2 Dog.

Dua Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Dua

Dua is an adorable 10 month old affectionate sable female weighing only 48 lbs. She is thin and has not been eating well, so she'll look much better after putting on at least 5 lbs. She has a small head and smaller ears and appears to be part husky. She talks to you in a similar fashion as huskies. She was a stray from a local shelter, so we have no history on her.

So far, Dua appears housebroken and has decent house manners (unless something especially yummy is on the counter). She has been friendly to all people and been great with other dogs of varying sizes. She has heard the cat in the foster home and showed no reaction but has not met her up close. She is living in a foster home with a mature female German Shepherd and an adult large male German Shepherd and foster boy Huck who is in our program. She plays very nicely with Huck who is the only playful dog of the three. It took her several days to adjust to her new home and was very whiny the first few days and cried throughout the night in the crate. By day 3, she began calming down and sleeps through the night in a crate and doesn't cry every time the foster mom gets out of her sight. Dua walks nicely on leash but needs training in all other basic commands. She will occasionally find a Nylabone or regular bone left out for the dogs to chew on, but has not been mouthy or shown signs of wanting to chew on everything in front of her like some young dogs do.

A home that will provide Dua with regular exercise and take her obedience training will be needed to provide a forever home for this sweet girl. Another dog would be nice but she may do fine as an only dog too.

Fredo Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Fredo

Fredo is an adorable 3.5 month old male Belgian Malinois mix. He's primarily tan with some black on his face and back. His feet are white with tan spots.

He's being fostered with his brother Vito (a darker tan boy), an adult male German Shepherd and an adult female German Shepherd. He barks at dogs he sees from a distance but is fine meeting them. This pup is very affectionate and tolerant of handling. He's got quite a bit of energy and climbed out of a 3.5' X-pen his first day here. He sleeps through the night in a crate with his brother but is not yet housebroken.< /p>

Continuing his socialization and enrolling in obedience training will make him into a great companion. A home with another playful dog is preferred.

Giblet Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Giblet

Giblet, Gibey for short, is an approximately 8- 10-week-old black and tan male. He was the largest of the litter. The six puppies that came to the Sacramento area are named with a Thanksgiving theme, ie Cranberry, Green Bean, Maize, Maple and Pumpkin. There are two more siblings in the Modesto area, Joy and Bronco. They all came out of a shelter and we have no history on their start in life.

Giblet is playful, energetic, persistent, food-motivated, affectionate (loves to get pet), but does not like to be held---he squirms until he can break free. Giblet is a high energy puppy when awake, but he still sleeps quite a bit. More often than not, Gibey goes to the sliding glass door when he wants to go outside to do his business. Gibey does really well in his crate. He knows he sleeps there, but he hasn't yet gotten to a point where he can be told to go into his crate. He can put him in the crate when he is calm, and he will just go to sleep, almost through the night. Recently, when running errands, he was put in the crate for an hour without a problem. We are working on his recall, and many times we are successful, but when he is focused, it is difficult to pull his attention away. Lately, if I shake a food bowl, he will come running---did I mention he is very food motivated?

Gibey currently lives with a 10-year-old Havanese girl named Charlee and a 5-year-old GCGSR rescue boy named Ghiaco . Charlee maintains higher ground and doesn't interact much with Gibey. Ghiaco is a patient but firm older brother, giving correction to Gibey when needed but will play chase with him from time to time. He loves to play with his humans, and he tries so hard to play with Charlee, but she'll not have it. He loves to play fetch inside the house. He tries very hard to jump up onto the sofa where Charlee is relaxing but can't quite make it.

Gibey would do well with an active household. Though we have not yet ventured outside, he is constantly roaming around the house, exploring. He also loves to play tug-of-war and fetch. A home with another playful dog or someone home most of the time to keep him out of trouble and socialized is needed for this young boy.

Grizzly Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Grizzly

Grizzly is a pretty 5-6 year old female with a black and red long coat, and is a perfect weight at 64 pounds. She was surrendered to a local shelter along with siblings from the same household and the dogs had been kept outdoor with little socialization.

Grizzly is housebroken and uses a dog door. She is crate trained. As long as other dogs are along, Grizzly enjoys car rides.

This girl is very aloof and does not seek out people for attention, however she seems to enjoy lying nearby her person whenever she sits down. She can be uncertain in new environments and with new people. She enjoys being with other dogs of all sizes and therefore must go into a home with one or more other dogs. Grizzly has moderate energy and is overall a calm, quiet girl.

Grizzly walks well on leash and seems to enjoy her walks. Her forever home must continue her low impact exercise and should appreciate Grizzly's aloof nature.

Grover Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Grover

Grover is an approximately 18 month old sable boy that came to us as a stray from a local shelter, so nothing is known of his background. He was extremely underweight after receiving GI surgery at the shelter for a bowel obstruction and is slowly putting weight on, but still has a ways to go. He is up to 60 lbs from less than 50 lbs upon arrival. With so much weight to gain, he is always on the lookout for food. He has learned to sit and wait for his food dish but often has to be reminded if he is hungry enough.

Don't let this skinny frame fool you, he still has plenty of energy to keep everyone busy. Grover's favorite past time includes playing ball as often as possible. He will bring the ball back for more, more, more all hours of the day if his human is willing to play too. Grover isn't good about sharing the ball with other dogs, so it's best to not bring the ball out if another dog is nearby until/unless Grover can learn to share. He is currently living in a house with a male and female German Shepherd and plays really well with them when the balls are put up. Being a puppy he still needs to learn not to put his teeth on people. At his current foster home it isn't a problem because there are firm boundaries and rules.

Grover is a little submissive and is not always outgoing and energetic when he encounters a new experience. However, with a little patience, he will quickly adapt to any new environment and experience. Grover walks well on a leash and is happy to go out on any adventure with his human companion. He sleeps well in a crate at night but once the sun is back up, he is back up and ready to play some more.

Grover will do best as a working dog or in a very active home. Obedience training is strongly recommended so he learns to follow commands and obey social rules. He may do well as an only dog.

He is a very calm dog. Hal loves humans and gets along well with all the dogs in his foster home big and small. He walks great on a leash. Hall sleeps quietly in his crate thru the night.

This sweet, affectionate dog is waiting for a home to call his own.

Hennessy Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Hennessy

Hennessy is a black male puppy, likely mixed with Labrador Retriever, whose owner surrendered him along with five siblings, Tanqueray, Bean, Banner, Buckee and Blu Boy. Their birthdate is March 1, 2021.

Hennessy is a very playful pup that is interested exploring his surroundings. At this time he is not potty trained, but for the most part will go to the bathroom on the puppy pee pads. He loves to sleep with a stuffed dog stuffy. When he is not sleeping he is wrestling with his brother Tanq. They are being fostered in a home with other dogs (large and medium sized) and cats. They are curious about both and try to get them to play.

A home with puppy raising experience and with another dog to serve as a role model and keep him company would be ideal.

Howard Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Howard

Howard is an adorable sable male weighing 25-30 lbs and one of our Aviation Litter puppies born 7/24/21 in our foster care. He went into a home with a toddler but, with his sharp puppy teeth and still jumping, he was too much to have with this young child.

Howard uses a dog door and is completely housebroken. He has learned the sit command and gives his paw to shake hands. He likes to chase toys that are thrown for him but doesn't always bring it back. He likes to play in the water bowl and drinks a lot of water too. He has lots of puppy energy, but then needs to spend a lot of time napping as his body is growing quickly. He is not a fan of being picked up or being restrained by a hug is still an affectionate pup. He loves rolling around on the carpet and playing but he still hasn't learned not to bite when playing so lots of toys to redirect his mouth is a must. His favorite toys are stuffed animals and bears, but not too fond of tennis balls. He has been with small dogs and cats and did well, but does want to chase the cats when they run.

A home with another playful dog would be ideal for Howard. As a puppy, he still has a short attention span and will randomly chase after a leaf or butterfly when outdoors. We wait until the puppies are at least 6 months old before neutering so a longer trial period will be needed as we are required to spay and neuter all of our dogs and puppies before being adopted. During this time, we expect the new family to provide continued training and socialization.

Huey Head
More

Adopted - May 2021

Huey

Huey is a robust, large-framed 3 old Black and Tan male with a beautiful plush coat. He was initially adopted from our organization when he was a 6 month old puppy, but was recently returned because the couple could no longer provide the care he needed. He currently lives in a foster home with another playful female who does her best to engage him in frolics, chase, and fun play. Huey rarely refuses this invitation, and will reciprocate with exuberance. Because he is currently overweight (> 120 lbs), however, care is taken to monitor his activities. His slow daily walks and low calorie diet are already uncovering his handsome Shepherd stature. While he has a ways to go, nothing seems to be slowing him down from wanting to play or join in on a new adventure.

This boy is generally social and welcomes a chance to meet other dogs (large and small) and adults with a calm demeanor. In his previous home, he apparently enjoyed the company of a cat. While he is curious to engage, often he will choose to lay quietly in peace. When he is in a crowd of multiple dogs or people, he often prefers to seek the company of his human and may get agitated with others (humans and busy dogs) approaching. Supervision will be needed to insure he does not feel the need to keep others away. A low-key household without young children will suit his nature the best.

Huey's energy level is relatively low to medium. He is very food motivated and finds interest with his safe chew toys. At times he does not share toys with his co-fosters but will relinquish to the direction of his human if definite boundaries have already been set. He may not defer to young children, so a home with teenage or older children only. He does well left alone while his foster mom is at work, and will exhibit a masterful alarm bark. He is housebroken and uses a large sized dog door. In the evening, he crates himself (into an XL sized crate) where he snoozes through the night. He walks very well on a leash, and responds rapidly to corrections and commands. This boy has a lot of affection to share with his endless gentle wags, and he will not ask for much except soothing belly rubs and a chance to please his forever family.

Jenkins Head
More

Adopted - May 2021

Jenkins

Jenkins is a handsome, Black and Tan one year old male weighing about 70 lbs. He was a stray from a local shelter, so we have no history on him.

This young boy is very energetic and enjoys playing with other dogs. He is social with most people, but does require consistent structure and lots of exercise. He is currently learning basic obedience and enjoys to work. He is very food motivated, which assists in his learning.

Jenkins will need a home that is experienced with strong breeds and can provide him the structure he needs. Further training and regular exercise will also be a benefit. Another playful dog will help Jenkins burn off some of his energy.

Jettison Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Jettison

Jettison is a large, all black male about four years old who weighs approximately 88 pounds. He was abandoned in front of a local animal shelter in a crate, so nothing is known of his past. The tips of his ears have been bitten by flies, which means he was probably left outside a lot. The tips of his ears are nicely rounded but don't bother him.

He was house trained when he came to us with nice house manners. He was left alone in the house with the adult female German Shepherd when other dogs were taken for a walk and he did great. There are two other other male German Shepherds in the foster home and there's been a bit of grumbling, so at the moment, all four dogs will not be left unsupervised. He's not very fond of going into a crate (possibly because he was left in front of the shelter in one). His foster home is gently working on the crate situation. Jettison has quickly learned to love being inside with his human and other foster dogs. He came to us overweight so he is also on a diet now. He has low to medium energy but that may change just a bit when he loses weight. He likes stuffed animals, rides well in the car and is learning the 'go potty' command. He is currently living in a foster home with 3 German Shepherd's and does very well with them under supervision by the foster mom. He sleeps very quietly all night in his foster's bedroom. He knows some basic commands, heels well and greats humans nicely. He has a very thick coat and he likes to be brushed.

This gentle giant would love to be adopted by a kind, loving human. Obedience training is recommended to help build trust.

Jonathan Head
More

Senior

Jonathan

Jonathan, aka Johnny, is a distinguished older black and tan boy with a gray muzzle who came out of a local shelter so we don't know his history. He is likely about 7-8 years old, but still has the spirit and heart of a youngster. He is living in a foster home with two younger German Shepherds and another older GSD and met all of his four-legged housemates nicely. When the youngsters play, he is right in the mix with this vocal participation and goofy antics.

Living indoors appears to be new to Johnny, but he caught on quickly and adapted to the household routine. He is housebroken with use of a doggie door and sleeps quietly in his crate at night (although, he can also be trusted to sleep uncrated). When his foster mom is at work, he is trusted with access to the house/yard along with the resident dogs (with the kitchen trash can being the only casualty!)

He loves to be in the company of his human, and will find a comfortable spot to nap near his foster mom when she's working. He is affectionate without being pesky, and he redirects easily with verbal corrections. This fairly mellow older guy is looking for a home to include him in their lifestyle and activities - he's already shown his foster family that even at his age, he still has a lot to offer! He is currently living in a home with both indoor and outdoor cats, so he may be able to live with dog savvy cats.

Kyda Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Kyda

Kyda is a 7 year old long haired female. She was an owner surrender who spent all her life in a backyard with three other German Shepherds. As a result, she had no knowledge of indoors or walks outside her yard. She has been picking up the indoor life quite well. She learned the stairs within a few days, and with only one accident, she now appears to be housebroken, with the use of a dog door. She is also learning how to go on walks and she walks calmly next to her human. She will go into a crate, but it is not her favorite thing, however, she does get crated when the family is out and she has been fine. Kyda sleeps in the bedroom with her foster parents.

Kyda is very uncertain of new humans initially, men more than women. She shies away from big arm/hand movements, but when she gets to know you, she is very affectionate. Kyda is a very sweet girl and takes instruction quite well. She will be an easy dog to train. She shares the foster home with another German Shepherd alum of GCGSR and does well with her.

Kyda is currently overweight and is on a weight reduction regime. This includes daily walks and two smaller meals a day. Although she is large, she is a slow, picky eater.

Lilu Head
More

Adopted - May 2021

Lilu

Lilu is a dainty 3 year old tri-colored female who is currently underweight at 51 lbs. She was brought into our organization through a local shelter with her 9 fluffy 4-week old puppies.

Upon arrival, she was severely undernourished and socially intimidated with all that is going on in her new world. Despite these challenges, she adapted well in her foster home where she successfully raised a healthy, well-balanced litter. Lilu is now able to focus on regaining much needed body strength and building her social confidence without the need to nurse her pups.

This gal is pure feminine delight. Her mission is to meet any human and canine friend she can with a gentle 'hello'. Her timid nature will, however, cause her to retreat quickly if she perceives a threat. Although she chooses avoidance in these situations, she does have the courage to return and 'try again'. She finds comfort in the company of calm confident dogs with whom she can explore the world without hesitation.

Lilu has lovely house manners, as she usually spends most of her time laying on a comfy dog bed. Toys are not a big interest of hers, but she will never turn down a soft chit chat with massaging butt rubs! She is learning to walk very well on a leash as she engages joyfully on her daily walks. She gets spooked now and then while walking in the dark, but takes cues well from her human to ignore any distractions. Car rides are new to her, and entering a vehicle is very intimidating. She will benefit from repeated opportunities to show her this adventure can be enjoyable.

Lilu is quietly keen with a rapid learning curve. She appears housebroken and willingly enters her crate where she sleeps quietly during the night near her human. She has an impressive baritone howl to distant sirens, much like a soothing 'Moo'. Otherwise, she is quietly content and grateful with your simple company. This girl will surely make a warm addition to a welcoming calm home.

Lucinda Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Lucinda

Lucinda (aka Luci) is a beautiful sleek black female. She is about 4 years old and is on the petite side weighing in about 55-60lbs. This sweet girl came to us through a local area shelter so nothing is known about her background.

Luci lives with other large male and female shepherds in her foster home. This girl tries very hard to get one of the other dogs to play with her. She plays rough and is very vocal, so any other dogs in her forever home would need to appreciate her play style, as she can bet very determined to play with them. We think she could be an only dog as well.

Luci is affectionate, and likes to be near her people, and while she is content to lay at your feet in the evenings, she is not a clingy girl. Luci rides nicely in the car, and likes to go on walks. She doesn't seem to have any formal leash training, however she is easy to walk, and is content to walk at your side.

Luci is housebroken and sleeps quietly in her crate at night. She apparently was allowed on furniture and in bed in her past life. She also likes to put her paws up on the kitchen counters to check out what you are doing. She is learning to keep her feet on the floor!

Luci would like a home that will continue her socialization and training.

Adopted - 2021

LuLu Bell

LuLu Bell is a 1 1/2 year old bi-colored female. She has a little something besides Shepherd in her, which gives her an extra-sweet personality. She came to us when when she injured her eye and her owners couldn't afford the surgery to remove it. She is all healed now and doesn't seem to notice the loss.

She does not like cats, but gets along great with other dogs. She walks well on leash and loves walks and car rides. She is well behaved indoors and out. She tolerates sleeping in a crate, but prefers to sleep on a dog bed.

Kammie Head
More

Adopted - May 2021

Kammie

Kammie is an 18 month old black and tan female german shepherd weight about 63 pounds. She spent all of her time in the backyard during the day, and then was crated in the garage at night.

She had no house/socialization manners, however, she figured out the dog door and the stairs within 1 day. She hasn't had any accidents in the house yet.

She CRAVES attention since she was left to her own devices all the time. Prior owners surrendered her because she became destructive. We have seen none of that type of behavior yet as she has someone with her most of the time. She goes outside when she needs to...drink water, go to the bathroom, but has adapted to indoor living. She loves being with her humans. If someone would pet her/scratch her/rub her belly 24/7 she would be happy.

She walks well on leash, considering she was never taken on walks. She is still somewhat mouthy (very much a puppy) but corrects easily.

Some things on walks startle her, but this may be due to everything being so new to her.

She does want to jump on counters/tables/people, but corrects very easily. Exercise and formal training will make Kammie into a great companion for some lucky home.

Kye Head
More

Adopted - Foster Fail - May 2021

Kye

Kye is an approximately 2 year old male German Shepherd weighing 81 pounds. He was a stray from a local shelter, so nothing is known about his past.

Kye bonds quickly with his human and gives good eye contact. He greets people well, has medium energy and is food motivated. He rides nicely in the car and waits quietly while you run into the store for 5 or 10 minutes, (while parked in the shade). He has nice house manners, but sometimes plays with your things being silly. He knows some basic commands including the 'go potty' command. He is trained to sit before going in or out of the front door. He is very affectionate and can sometimes get a bit pushy for attention including jumping on people. For this reason, no children under 13 years old for this boy. His feet are sensitive and don't like to be touched, so building his trust before attempting to handle his feet is important. He is agile and known to jump a 6' wood fence, climbed out of a chain link kennel with no cover on it and tried to dig out when he couldn't scale over a fence. Having a secure enclosure to leave him in is important.

He will sleep through the night in a crate if he knows you're nearby. He will ring a bell when he needs to go potty (bells included). He heels well, but he does need correcting when critters are near. He barks at small dogs and when close to a large dog like a Rottweiler he makes a charging motion.

He currently lives with a large female German Shepherd and plays well with her. Obedience training and consistent boundaries are recommended to help with his jumping, reaction on leash, and teaching him whose in charge so he will be successful in his new home.

No cats, critters, birds, livestock or small dogs.

This is a Level 3 Dog. Please be sure you understand what this level of dog requires.

Kyle Head
More

Adopted - May 2021

Kyle

Kyle is a 9 to 10 month old black German Shepherd male.  He came to us from a local shelter after being picked up wandering the streets with a broken leg.  He has recuperated at his foster home for a couple months, and evidence of the injury is now barely noticeable.

Kyle is an average sized boy, currently weighing about 55 pounds.  He is naturally a very social and happy boy, always ready to go for a walk or sit for a pet.  He loves playing chase with the other dogs in his foster home, and is always in the mood for a good wrestling match with the other young male dog in the home.  Kyle has a good recall when off leash, and tends not to wander very far from his person.  He is crate trained, and has had no accidents in the house.  He grabs a toy from the toy box to take in his crate before settling down for the night.

Kyle has average puppy energy, and will need a home with a family that can meet his physical and mental exercise needs.  He currently resides on a 40-acre farm, where he can run and play for several hours a day.  So far, he has greeted everyone he has met appropriately.  He is eager to meet other dogs and quickly attempts to get them to play with him.

Kyle is looking for a home with another nice dog that will play with him, and a family that will keep him exercised and included him in daily activities.   He would benefit from a group training class to improved his basic leash manners and learn more commands.  He is eager to learn, and treat motivated, so training should be a fun activity with him.

This is a Level 2 Dog.

Leona Head
More

Adopted - January 2021

Leona

Leona is a 7 month old small black and tan female weighing about 35 lbs. She was a stray from a local shelter, so little is known of her background. Based on her odd stance and gait, we asked for X-rays and learned she has two fractured pelvic bones. The right side appears worse than the left and she is scheduled at UC Davis for a Femoral Head Ostectomy aka FHO on 9/24 for the first side to be done. About six weeks later, she will go back to have the other side repaired. Rehab involves no impact and little movement for the first 1-2 weeks with more distance being added as she tolerates it beyond the initial weeks. Because she is young, we expect her to bounce back fairly quickly. Long term, it's best to not allow any high impact activities until she has built up muscles and shows no pain. If you are up to the rehab, Leona can go to a Foster-to-Adopt home anytime.

This girl is growing, but will likely remain a petite girl. She knows sit, is almost housebroken, sleeps nicely in a crate at night and is learning leave it, go away and the place commands. Leona loves human affection and once she's warmed up to new dogs, enjoys hanging out with them too. Playing with stuffed toys, chewing on nylabones and playing in water are some of Leona's favorite past times. She will chew on a shoe, chair leg or seat, dog bed, toilet paper, the carpet or whatever is nearby if not supervised closely. She is curious about the resident cat, but does not want to do her any harm. Outside, she can entertain herself with a tennis ball or another dog. She will alarm bark if she hears a stranger walking by, especially if with another dog.

The name Leona is derived from "lioness." On initial meeting, this girl tends to snap at the face of other dogs. So far, she's been given a puppy pass by the dogs she's met, but consistent, serious corrections are needed to let her know it is not acceptable as she will not fair well if a dog retaliates. Once she's accepting of another dog, she plays and harasses the young 3 year old male in the home. There is a 6 year old female and a 13 year old male German Shepherd also in the home, but they don't appreciate her puppy energy.

Leona could be fine as an only dog as long as she has her human around much of the time. Further training and regular exercise will go a long way for this fun little girl.

This is a Level 3 Dog. Please be sure you understand what a dog of this Level requires.

Maize Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Maize

Maize is an adorable little Black and Tan female puppy who was left at a local shelter with 11 littermates. All pups went into rescue, 8 of them with GCGSR. She is approximately 8-10 weeks old, but appears to be one of the smallest in the litter. Six of the pups came to the Sacramento area and given Thanksgiving themed names-Cranberry, Giblet, Green Bean, Maple, and Pumpkin. Siblings Bronco and Joy are in the Modesto area.

Maize appeared very under-socialized when she first came to us, but very quickly became social with both the dogs and humans in her foster home. She is a normal pup of that age who spends her time playing and napping. She is allowed limited access in the home and while her foster mom is working, she entertains herself with her various toys. She uses her mouth to play, and needs to be re-directed to her toys when she bites fingers or anything else inappropriate. Since she is still learning, her sharp little teeth may be too much for very young children.

She sleeps in the crate all night, only whining the first night. With the door left open, she will also occasionally put herself to bed for a nap, but she has also grown fond of sleeping on a dog bed next to her foster mom's desk. She is working on housebreaking, and she will run outside to do her business if let out. In her foster home, she has also started interacting and playing with the 'big dogs' and is learning that the cats are not willing playmates.

Maize loves following her human and the pitter patter of little feet is a common sound in her foster home. Maize learns quickly and continued socialization and training will make her a wonderful family addition.

Marmaduke Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Marmaduke

Marmaduke is an approximately 4 yo male Golden German Shepherd weighing about 75 lbs. Found as a stray, we do not have insight into his past. He comes with a pair of delightful ears that will bring a smile to everyone he greets. This endearing feature also happens to fit his overall easy-going nature.

This boy does not exhibit high-drive. In fact, toys and treats are not essential commodities in his daily routine. When encountering new situations, he shows hesitancy but will choose to engage with your calm encouragement and direction. The indoor life was initially strange for him, but he has rapidly become accustomed to all the comforts of his home.

Marmaduke does very well in the company of other dogs, both large and small. As with many dogs, supervision is recommended to prevent too many of his canine companions coming into his personal space until he gets to know them. His absolute joy, no doubt, is your simple company. He has overcome a fence to get to his human only to knock at the front door to join his family. Once in your presence, he will lie down with quiet contentment.

This guy is learning the joys of daily walks and car rides, much like a child discovering an amusement park. He is housebroken with use of a dog door, and calmly enter his crate where he sleeps quietly through the night. Continued engagement and introductions to new experiences will allow Marmaduke to enjoy a future of partnership and discovery.

Martini Head
More

Adopted - May 2021

Martini

Martini is an approximately two year d black & tan stocky female weighing about 70 lbs. This girl was a stray out of a shelter with the worst wound to her inner hind leg that looked like she was sliced with a sharp object. She was in a bandage requiring daily changes for the first six weeks. Because she could ruin any cone and/or work off the bandages with her other leg, she was in the vets office during those six weeks. Her wound is better now without the need for bandaging but not fully healed, allowing her to go into a foster home.

Martini desperately wants another dog to play with. She unfortunately doesn't take cues from other dogs who aren't as playful. She is very determined and requires stern, consistent corrections to get her attention. She loves human interaction. She could be fine as an only dog. She uses a dog door and appears housebroken but she is still learning house manners.

Since her leg still has a bit of healing to do, she needs someone to watch and correct her if she is licking or bothering the wound until it fully closes, so someone home most of the time is critical. Her forever home should be committed to training and exercise.

No cats or small critters

Meeko Head
More

Adopted - April 2021

Meeko

Meeko is an almost 2 year old male with traditional Black and Tan coloring. He came to us as a stray from a local shelter so nothing is known about his background. Meeko is a happy and affectionate boy. He is currently living with a female german shepherd and loves to get her to play. He enjoys playing with large dogs but is just as happy to engage with people instead.

Meeko is house trained with the use of a dog door and sleeps nicely in a crate overnight. He has a tendency to try and make his way onto furniture or stand on counters when he sees something he wants, but corrects easily when reminded where he is not allowed. Meeko can be jumpy and a bit mouthy when overly excited but regular attention and exercise help to keep him well mannered and from chewing on things that don't belong to him.

Meeko would love an active home that is willing to take him along on their adventures. He has not had any exposure to kids, cats or small dogs in his foster home.

Midnight Head
More

Adopted - January 2021

Midnight

Midnight is a 2 1/2 year old all black male who came in as an owner surrender and had a rough start in life. He arrived with a skin allergy, severely underweight, and was missing 2/3 of his hair. Midnight has fully recovered and is ready for the next chapter in his life.

Midnight is a very fun, loving, goofy, and happy boy that loves to be with people. He is currently fostered with 4 large breed dogs and 2 cats. He was a quick introduction to the pack and he ignores the dog savvy cats. Midnight is house trained, uses a doggy door, loves car rides, and going out in public. He meets other dogs and strangers with tail wags, and walks well on a loose leash around the neighborhood. Midnight knows some basic commands such as sit, off, and leave it.

Midnight will need time adjusting to his new family. He bonds quickly to his human and has displayed separation anxiety when they are not around after 15-20 minutes. He has not been destructive but may bark, howl, or look for a way to search for his human. He does quickly settle down when his human returns. Midnight has been able to be left at home with his foster brother successfully for short periods of time. Additional work will need to be performed to increase the overall time away and for him to realize his human will return. Midnight does not like to be confined to a crate.

Midnight would do best in a house with a similar sized playmate. He would also benefit being in an active family with people home most of the time. He is a loving dog that wants to be with his family. If you have the ability to take him to work, he would do amazing. Midnight goes to work daily with his foster dad and is a pleasure to have around.

Moses

Moses is a Handsome 8 yo Black and Tan male weighing 80 lbs. He was originally found as a stray when he first arrived to us 3 years ago. While we do not know much about his early past, he was returned to us after living with a family for 3 years due to a change in job location. As always, Moses remains very social and curious. Like many dogs, he displays moments of hesitation with some new experiences, however he will eagerly join you with positive and confident leadership. Due to years of living outdoors, he used to avoid all tile/linoleum floors. Happily, this has been completely overcome. In fact, Moses finds the indoors to be his preferred sanctuary where he often may entice play even on slippery surfaces.

Murdock Head
More

Adopted - June 2021

Murdock

Murdock is a handsome black and tan male puppy about 5 months old weighing just over 30 lbs. He came from a local shelter with his sister Willow. Three other siblings went to another rescue group.

Murdock is a sweet, well-behaved, affectionate pup with a great temperament. He is potty trained and quickly figured out the doggy door. He sleeps well in a crate and also sleeps quietly in his foster moms' room. He is being fostered with 4 adult German Shepherds/Malinois and fits in easily with the pack, he is only mildly interested in the resident dog savvy cat. He is a quick learner, learning in just a few sessions to sit, wait for his food. When he sees his food dish, he runs with glee to his crate and waits to be served. He walks nicely on a leash. He loves the water and does zoomies around the yard, landing in the puppy pool. Murdock is initially skittish, but once he warms up and trusts you, he just settles right in.

He would be best placed with another confident dog to show him the ropes. Some training, socialization, and confidence-building will make Murdock an especially wonderful addition to any home.

Mushu Head

Adopted - May 2021

Mushu

Mushu is an approximately 4 year old male that came to us from a local shelter so nothing is known about his background. He is a smaller boy weighing in closer to 65-70 lbs. His coloring is black and cream so it can be a little tough to tell if his coloring is light or grey, but make no mistake this boy has plenty of youthful energy.

Mushu is a happy and affectionate boy that loves to spend time with people. He loves to play with toys or roll over for a nice belly rub. Mushu knows basic commands and quickly picks up new instructions. He is crate trained and will easily go into the crate to sleep for the night though he would also likely be fine to sleep loose on a comfy dog bed next to his people. Mushu walks well on leash with only a gentle reminder needed occasionally.

He gets along well with the female shepherd in his home but doesn't demand her attention so he may also do well as an only dog. He has not been tested with small critters or kids in his current foster home. With consistent structure and activity this boy will make a great addition to a lucky home.

Nevaeh Head
More

Adopted - May 2021

Nevaeh

Nevaeh is a lovely, petite red and black female with a plush coat who weighs about 55 lbs. We have estimated her age at around 3 years old, but her goofy energy makes her seem almost puppy-like at times. Her name is Heaven spelled backwards, but her past seems anything but heavenly. She came to the shelter as a stray, so we know nothing of her background. The shelter recognized her extremely sweet nature and tried to prepare her for a forever home, but the shelter environment was much too stressful for her. Now comfortably settled into a foster home, she is being weaned off of her anti-anxiety medication and is learning that the world isn't such a scary place. While she still exhibits cautious and submissive behavior sometimes, she is no longer anxious or afraid.

Nevaeh trusted her human immediately, but she took a bit longer to extend her trust to the other dogs in the foster home. Appropriate introductions were made slowly and she is now great pals with the three other German Shepherds in her foster home and she is also respectful of the indoor cats. She loves to play rough with the other dogs and also shows exuberance playing with her human. As with many German Shepherds, she uses her mouth to play and is still learning appropriate methods to engage, so she would likely do best with older children. She loves playing chase and is starting to show an interest in stuffed toys.

Nevaeh was quick to claim a crate as one of her favorite quiet spots. She will sleep quietly in her crate, but she can also be trusted to sleep on a dog bed in her foster mom's room and she is now choosing the various dog beds over the crate when she naps. Her right eye appears to be under-developed and while it is likely that she is blind in that eye, it also does not appear to cause her any discomfort. Nevaeh loves being with her people and would love a home that will continue her socialization and training.

Nike Head
More

Adopted - February 2021

Nike

Nike is a black and tan 2 1/2 year-old 86 pound male German Shepherd. Nike was an owner surrender whose prior owner couldn't provide for him properly. He used to live in a home with a seven-year-old child and a cat. He is currently living with a large female and male German Shepherd (see Kye) and plays well with them. He is the Alpha in the pack, so once in a while he needs to be told the *be nice* command. Luckily he corrects very easily.

He has used a dog door in the past and is currently using a flip screen to go out side. He is crate trained and knows some basic commands, along with the *go potty* command. He is also trained to sit before going in or out of the front door. Currently he goes on two hour walks every morning and heals well. He only needs correcting when critters are near. He bonds well with his human and has been protective of them when company comes over in the past. Nike will need a strong handler who sets boundaries. He is food motivated with medium energy and likes to chase the ball. He rides well in the car, easily jumping into the back of an SUV with enthusiasm. Currently he sleeps in a crate in his fosters room at night but can be trusted to sleep out of the crate too.

Regular exercise and formal training will help the bonding experience and make this one awesome dog to have in your pack.

May be ok with Dog-savvy cats but will chase if they run.

Peggy Head
More

Adopted - August 2021

Peggy

Peggy was pulled from a local animal shelter and little is known about her past. She is approximately 8 years old and appears to have some Rottweiler in her. Peggy weighs in at roughly 94 lbs and can stand to lose a few pounds. This girl is house trained (goes on command), great with other large dogs, and follows cats with a wagging tail. She sleeps quietly in a crate at night, walks well on a leash, and loves car rides. She does not beg for food nor does she get sick on winding roads. Peggy can be left inside during the day without chewing, barking, or whining.

Unfortunately, this girl had a hurt left front leg and has gone through surgery to correct Metacarpal-Phalangeal instability. She has already undergone partial carpal arthrodesis surgery. TEAM from Bradshaw funded her surgery, and through a joint effort of TEAM, Sacramento County Animal Services, and Greater California German Shepherd Rescue, Peggy is back on her feet and ready for a loving home where she can live out her senior years, although has a few more bandage changes before they can come completely off.

Peggy loves tennis balls, fluffy toys, and Nyla bones. She is an absolute joy to have around and should be an amazing addition to a loving family.

Pua Head

Adopted - June 2021

Pua

Pua is an approximately 13 week old white female with hints of biscuit coloring on her ears and back. She, her mom, and 8 siblings came to us from a shelter at 4 weeks old and she is the last of the Hawaiian named themed litter. Her name means flower in Hawaiian. No details are known of her background.

Pua is currently working on sleeping in the crate, however she sleeps outside well with a person watching her. She can sleep through most of the night with one or two bathroom breaks. For the most part, she is able to go outside with a few minor accidents in the house. She is very playful and tries to play actively with the older dogs and cats. When she isn't playing she can be very vocal in a playful and fun way towards humans and animals. She can be easily corrected, understands "leave it" and "sit". She would do well to have an older dog to play with and show her the ropes. Further training will benefit her and her forever family.

Raphael Head
More

Adopted - April 2021

Raphael

Raphael, a sweet two year old male black and tan, came to us from a local shelter so we don't know much about him aside from the fact that he had a severe injury to his right rear leg that required amputation. This handsome boy weighs in at 90 lbs, and his large muscular frame allows him to get around great on 3 legs. Although he sometimes acts unsure, he quickly mastered the doggie door and the four steps going to the backyard.

He is living in a foster home with three other German Shepherds, met all of them nicely, and is now starting to participate in their doggie games. He is also living with indoor cats and has always been curious, but respectful. At night, he sleeps on a dog bed in his foster mom's bedroom and is happy lounging nearby when his foster mom is working. He is very affectionate with humans, but as with many young German Shepherds, he can sometimes be 'mouthy', but he redirects easily. He occasionally startles at loud noises and he displays slight panic when initially leashed but soon settles and is learning to walk nicely on leash.

Since he is so engaging with people and is not physically hindered by his amputation, Raphael would do best in a family that includes him in their activities to broaden his world and build his confidence. Training will also help and tends to create a strong bond between the dog and the handler.

She is looking for a home with a male dog to be her playmate and to teach her about being a dog. She can continue to live with cats with the occasional reminder not to chase them. She needs daily outings to ensure she grows into a confident and happy dog.

Sal Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Sal

Sal is a 3-year-old male. He came to us last year with a broken leg. UC Davis was able to surgically repair the leg and it is completely healed now. He was adopted out for a few months, but was returned when they realized he was a bit too much for their energetic 6-year-old daughter and their frequent visitors.

Sal is a happy, goofy boy that loves other dogs. His favorite game is playing chase with them. When given daily exercise, he settles quickly indoors, relaxing on a dog bed with a toy. He is good with dog-savvy cats that won't run. He did great with the calm 10-year-old daughter in the adopted home.

He is crate trained and can be trusted alone in the house for short periods. He does fine outside or in his crate when necessary. He is shy with new people, but quite the cuddler with people he knows.

He has had some issues with letting strangers in the house. On leash he responds nicely to correction. He has learned to sit for his meals, and to sit before being let in/out of the house.

Sal needs a home with another playful dog to be his buddy. He is looking for someone that is familiar with the over-protectiveness that German Shepherds can exhibit and is prepared to continue working on this with him. He does best with calm, but assertive, leadership.

Sammie Jo Head
More

Adoption - April 2021

Sammie Jo

Sammie Jo is a beautiful red and tan female that is approximately 6 years old. She originally came to us with her litter of puppies in 2018 from a local shelter. She was adopted out and returned to us in 2019, through no fault of her own. She unfortunately came back to us overweight at 107 lbs on a 70 lb. frame.

She suffered a torn cruciate in her right rear knee, due in part to her being overweight. She has slimmed down to her ideal weight around 70 lbs. She had surgery at UC Davis in August of 2020 to repair her knee. She is fully recovered from her surgery and now ready to go into a home again where she can enjoy life and have a family of her own.

Sammie Jo is super sweet and loves attention. She does have some ball drive. She will bring you her ball or toy and wait patiently for you to throw it. She also has a medium prey drive, so a home with small dogs or cats would not work for this girl.

Sammie Jo knows basic commands and has great recall. She is a good alarm barker, keeping an eye on things in the home. She currently lives in a home with 3 adult male GSDs and 1 adult female GSD. She gets along well with everyone. She also behaves like a typical mature female, and becomes the fun police if things get too rowdy for her taste.

Sammie Jo needs to work on her leash manners. She is very strong and has a tremendous amount of pull. The ideal adopter will need a good center of gravity, in order not to be pulled down.

Sammie Jo needs a home where her food intake will be monitored, and food securely stored. She needs a home where the owner will appreciate her crafty nature and her problem-solving skills. She will benefit from being in a home that will provide her with daily exercised and continued training.

Sheena Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Sheena

Sheena is approximately 4 months old. She and her siblings were found in a dumpster and apparently had little interaction with people.

She is very shy and afraid of people. After working with her for a few weeks, now she will come for treats, but gets just close enough to take it from your hand. She doesn't trust enough to be pet just yet.

Sheena loves other dogs! She is happy and playful with them. She enjoys hanging out with them and feels more secure with another dog nearby. She can be too playful with cats and needs to be separated from them at times.

She is looking for a home where someone has lots of time to spend with her making her feeling comfortable and patiently teaching her to trust. A male dog in the home will be very helpful to be an example for her. Positive training and consistency will help her know her place in the household and give her security.

Shelly Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Shelly

Shelly is an adorable black and tan plush coated, 4 month old female. She was originally found in a dumpster with three siblings and brought to a local shelter. Given her rough start in life, this girl is very shy and loves other dogs but she's still getting used to humans. Although timid at times she will come to get treats held in an extended hand about fifty percent of the time. She is generally content to lay in her human's lap although it can take some convincing.

Shelly is crate trained and generally potty trained but ,due to her shyness, doesn't always clearly alert her humans that she needs to be let out. She would do best with another older more confident dog to show her the ropes and help to bring her out of her shell. Regular exercise and obedience training can also help tire her and help bond her to her people.

Stella Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Stella

Stella is a 3 to 4 year old female. She is a sizeable girl weighing about 85 pounds. Stella came into rescue when her owner could no longer care for her.

Stella lived in her previous home with a small dog and a cat. She is an affectionate dog that keeps a close eye on her person. Stella walks beautifully on a leash, and off leash, has a perfect recall. She sleeps quietly in her crate at night, and appears to be housebroken. She rides great in a car, happily jumping in, ready to go for a ride.

She is fairly neutral, mostly ignoring strangers that may approach, and focuses on her person instead. She is somewhat playful with other respectful dogs, but could easily be an only dog too.

Stella is looking for a home with someone home most of the time, and a home that will include her in daily activities.

Stormy Head
More

Adopted - March 2021

Stormy

Stormy is a pretty red and black female weighing 66 lbs. She was a stray from a shelter so we have no background on her.

She is in a home with a senior male, an adult female and a young male dog, all German Shepherds and a cat. Uses a dog door and has had no accidents. She wants the cat to play but corrects when told to leave it. She's great at playing ball and will bring it back for you to throw it again. Will occasionally put her feet on the counter if smells are too enticing but corrects easily.

Nothing valuable has been chewed in but she tests the boundaries the more comfortable she becomes. Nylabones or other yummy chewables help redirect her. Stormy loves her daily walks and her leash manners are improving. She isn't a fan of car rides yet and sometimes gets car sick.

She originally didn't bark much but now barks sometimes on walks at people and dogs and seems to want to meet them. Stormy knows some basic commands but further training will help her be at her best. She would like another dog companion and someone home most of the time.

Sven Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Sven

Sven is a handsome 5 year old Black and Tan male. He came to us from a local shelter so nothing is known about his background.

Sven has nice house manners and enjoys the use of the dog door in his foster home. He plays nicely with the female shepherd in his home and respects her boundaries. When she lets him know play time is over he will wander back to the human companions and find a nice spot to hang out near them.

Sven sleeps nicely in the crate at night in his foster mom's bedroom but can also be trusted to sleep free. He will let you know when he is ready to get up for the day but always checks in to say good morning before running outside to do his business.

This sweet and affectionate boy loves to be with his human. He is not particularly food-motivated but he lives for praise and affection from people. Sven can be cautious and uncertain in a new environment or experience but his easy going nature helps him get through it with a little bit of patience and structure from his handler.

Sven has not been tested with children, cats or other small critters in his foster home.

Continued structure and affection will help this loving boy thrive in his new forever home.

Adopted - 2021

Tanqueray

Tanqueray is a black male puppy, likely mixed with Labrador Retriever, whose owner surrendered him along with five siblings, Hennessy, Bean, Banner, Buckee and Blu Boy. Their birthdate is March 1, 2021.

Tanqueray is very playful when he works up the courage to check out his surroundings. He can be shy at first, but once he realizes it, he loves to explore and chew on things. At this time he refuses to use the pee pad and goes wherever he can find a spot. When he is not sleeping or chewing on toys he is wrestling with his brother Hennessy. He is fostered in a home with other dogs (large and medium sized) and cats. They are curious about both and try to get them to play.

A home with puppy raising experience and with another dog to serve as a role model and keep him company would be ideal.

Adopted - February 2021

Tippi

Tippi is an adorable one year sable female. She was hit by a car about 8 mos ago and her front leg was amputated. Her prior family was no longer able to provide for her properly and she landed in a local shelter.

She is fostered with an adult female, a 13 yo male and a 3.5 year old male, all German Shepherds, and does well. She appears housebroken and uses a dog door. Still a little young to be trusted unsupervised, so she sleeps in a crate and not given full access in the home alone. She loves a game of chase with the young male. Knows a few commands and quickly learning the go place command and leave it.

She is uncomfortable with men but slowly warming up to the men she has met in the foster home. Bacon helps a great deal. She has seen the resident cat and just laid down to the observe her.

This girl is affectionate and fun. She may not be a running partner but will make a great dog for some lucky adopter.

Adopted - April 2021

Trixie May

Trixie May is an approximately three year old black female. She weighs approximately 75 to 80 lbs. She came as a stray from a local shelter so nothing is known about her past. She does have a lame back right foot (possibly from an old injury) but it does not limit her ability to walk. It is also obvious she's had at least one litter of puppies or more.

Trixie May really enjoys going for walks to the point she will almost jump up and down to get going. She is very good natured and mellow with her surroundings. The only time she will get ractive is if a small dog starts snarking at her, but she can be redirected and stating *leave it* to change her focus. She is house broken and easily sleeps in a crate. She loves to snuggle and if given the opportunity will sneak into your lap while on the couch to get extra snuggles and love. She does well with cats, small dogs that are not aggressive and children. Her favorite things are snuggles, walks and all kinds of puppy love.

Titus Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Titus

Titus came to us with seemingly little life experience, so everything is new to him. He is sometimes insecure and will whimper when he's uncertain. He meets people easily, both at home and in public. He is initially slightly anxious but settles quickly and walks nicely on a loose leash.

He lives with three other German Shepherds, GCGSR foster dog Glenlivet, and 3 cats. He is a playful boy who loves to rough house with his pack mates and is respectful of the cats with only an occasional reminder not to try to engage with them. He gets along splendidly with his playmates but also sees them as competition for his human's attention. He will sometimes whine and frantically try to make himself the center of attention, but is learning that patience and good behavior will earn the desired consideration from his human. When his foster mom leaves the house, he can be heard crying for a short time, but soon quiets with comfort from his canine friends and has never been destructive. He is anxious in public when other dogs are around, so continued socialization will help him conquer his insecurities.

Titus learned house rules quickly and at mealtime will go to his spot, sit, and wait patiently for his food. He uses a doggie door to go in and out and crates easily at bedtime. His favorite spot is wherever his human is, so he will make use of the dog beds throughout the house to stay close to his foster mom. He loves to ride in the car and relishes any activity where he can be with his people. Continued training and socialization will help Titus gain confidence, and this loyal, affectionate boy will be a wonderful companion.

Tres Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Tres

Tres is a gorgeous, petite female weighing about 30 lbs at 6 months old. By her tan coloring, she appears to be part Belgian Malinois. She came to us through a local shelter where she arrived with a badly injured front leg from being hit by a car. She was taken to an emergency vet where her left front leg was amputated. Being young helped in a quick recovery and she doesn't act like she realizes she's any different than than the four legged dogs in her foster home.

She keeps up with the dogs at the foster home, even wrestling around with one large male, as he enjoys "sharing" his toys with her. She is close to fully housebroken and has conquered the doggy door like a champ. She will kennel in the bedroom at night yet would prefer to hang out with her foster humans. She is hesitant walking on a leash near cars, following her traumatic accident. We have gone on some walks, and she's getting the hang of it.

This little girl adores playing with her foster humans as much as she adores playing with her foster pack. She can be described as being 3 legs and all heart. She is curious and loving and will make an amazing addition to a family. She is a joy!

Cats and small critters unknown.

Twix Head
More

Adopted - May 2021

Twix

Twix is a petite bicolored 2 yo female black and tan shepherd mix weighing 40 lbs. She was originally adopted out along with her 3 littermates at the age of 3 months, but was recently returned due to an unexpected move out of state by the owner. During her time with her original family, she adapted well to the indoor life which included sharing her home with multiple cats.

This gal adores human affection but may start off very timid when meeting strangers for the first time. She may even express a few barks to ward off what she perceives is danger. With calm and persistent introductions, her ambivalence is soon replaced with cautious curiosity. As with many of our dogs, she will respond rapidly to praise and rewarding pets.

One exceptional feature of Twix is her innate canine social appetite. When meeting other dogs (large and small), this girl is Miss Congeniality. She has no hesitation to say 'Hello' and will do her best to engage any of her new friends in a game of zesty play. Prepare for entertainment as you watch her elite sleek stature burst in a confetti filled party-parade. Despite her small size, this gal possesses play stamina that can match up to dogs 3 times her size.

When not in the company of other dogs, her energy is well managed with daily walks and everyday social exposures. Her lovely compact and athletic physique makes car traveling an ease. Occasionally she may chase a ball, but she is not overly interested in toys. Flies and Food are magnets to her in this world, but she can be called off easily given her stronger desire to please and interact with her human.

Twix does well left alone while her foster mother is at work and has very good house manners. When she reunites with her human (or when her foster brother, Huey, receives affection), she feels the need to compete with energetic vertical leaps to steal your attention, occasionally with reflexive nips. Consistent boundaries and redirection will be necessary to help her to continue to resist this urge. In the meantime, she will do best in a home with no small children.

In the evening, she calmly enters her crate where she sleeps quietly all night. She is housebroken and is accustomed to using a dog door. She is a quick learner and shows unbridled interest to meet your expectations. At the end of the day, she will love nothing more than to offer you her devoted affection with her big brown soulful eyes.

Wonder Head
More

Adopted - January 2021

Wonder

Wonder (aka Little Stevie) is a German Shepherd/Husky mix born on 7/3/2020. It is apparent that this cute little guy has some vision impairment, and he was surrendered to us when his owners could not care for him.

While he does exhibit vision problems, we are still waiting to have him examined to determine the extent of his impairment. His eyes do not seem to bother him, and he does sometimes seem to be able to see certain things. His diminished vision makes him a bit uncertain, and if left alone he will sometimes get overwhelmed and retreat to a safe spot. Since he is people and dog social, he just needs help sometimes knowing what to do and where to go. Helping him leave his comfort zone to interact with the dogs and humans in his foster home is slowly building his confidence to move about on his own. He bumps into things sometimes, but he is learning to follow sounds and shadow the other dogs to help maneuver around the house and will soon have it mapped out just like his blind, four-legged foster sister.

Wonder does not realize that he is different, and he behaves like a typical puppy. Anything he finds interesting goes into his mouth, and he needs to be re-directed with an appropriate toy. He is learning house manners and we are working on housetraining and walking confidently on leash. He will run around and try to play with the other dogs, but he is still figuring out how to take part in their doggie games. He interacts appropriately with the indoor kitties in his foster home, so he may be able to live with dog-savvy cats.

Wonder sleeps quietly in his crate at night and has even been known to take advantage of the open crate door when he wants to relax. Wonder would love a forever home with another canine companion to help with his confidence building and humans who will continue his socialization and training.

Zoey May

Zoey May is a 2-3 year old pretty black and red Shepherd. She came into the shelter with a fractured back leg. Her leg has been surgically repaired and she is now going on her sixth week of recovery. No running or jumping for Zoey until November 14 when she has a recheck and should be able to return to normal dog activities.

Zoey lives in a multi-dog home and gets along with her both the males and females in her foster home. You can tell she wants to play with her dog buddies, so longer term she would probably like a dog buddy to play with.

Adopted - 2021

Vito

Vito is a good looking 3.5 month old Belgian Malinois mix. He's a dark tan with black and big upright ears.

He's fostered with his brother Fredo (a lighter tan boy), an adult male German Shepherd and an adult female German Shepherd. He barks at dogs he sees from a distance but is fine meeting them. This pup is the alpha of the two and needs to be corrected for growing at his brother when they eat. He takes correction easily but needs to be reminded frequently.

He's very affectionate and tolerant of handling. He's got a lot of energy and has shown some agility by climbing out of a 3.5' high x-pen and onto a 3' sitting wall on his first day. He sleeps through the night with his brother in a crate, but is not yet housebroken.

Continuing his socialization and enrolling in obedience is a must for this boy. A home with another playful dog is preferred.

Adopted - 2021

Willow

Willow came into a local animal shelter with 4 brothers and sisters, however little is know about her past. She is approximately 5 months old and weights about 30 lbs. This girl uses a doggy door to go potty and signals to go out. She may have an occasional accident if you do not recognize her signals, but is getting better day by day. She enjoys eating and sleeping in a crate at night and rests quietly throughout the evening.

Willow is currently being fostered with 4 other shepherds and gets along nicely with all of them. She is respectful of the two dog savvy cats and does not engage in chase. Willow does not get sick on winding car rides and settles down nicely. She often goes to work with her foster dad and is great in the office.

This girl is very affectionate and loves belly rubs. She has the World's Fastest licker and will smother you with kisses of happiness. She walks nicely on a loose leash with great eye contact. Often when you stop walking, she will sit along side and watch you. She is not mouthy and will be an amazing addition to someone's family. A home with puppy raising experience that will continue training and socializing would be ideal. Having a well behaved male dog would be preferred for Willow's forever home.

Whlie Head
More

Adopted - 2021

Wylie

Wylie is a stunning 1 yo sable female Shepherd mix weighing approximately 60 lbs. Despite her unknown past, she is packed with delightful confidence and ready to share greetings with anyone she meets. Her approach is kind and curious, and she seems to rapidly detect one's appreciation of her exotic beauty. This is, after all, the cover of her 'eager-to-jump-into-life' storybook.

When meeting other dogs, both large and small, she has no hesitation to say 'Hello' and will do her best to find a willing playmate to join her in zesty play. Wylie has a unique ability to engage and quickly accommodate her partner's playstyle with delightful fun and respect. She enjoys interacting with other dogs one-on-one or engage in cooperative group-style play. Get ready for entertainment as you watch her sleek physique romp with athletic skill.

When not in the company of other dogs, her energy is ideally managed with daily walks or runs along with a variety of social exposures. Her athletic physique makes car traveling a joyful adventure with ease. While she is always ready to join you in the 'next activity', she will calmly settle in the home on her dog beds when given her daily exercise. She is very affectionate and, on occasion, may decide she belongs on your lap for unexpected cuddle time. She also enjoys entertaining herself with Nyla bones and dog toys, but thinks 'fetch with a ball' should be left to Labrador retrievers.

Wylie does well in the company of her foster brother while her human is at work and has very good house manners. When she reunites with her human, she may occasionally jump up with excitement. This rapidly diminishes with consistent corrections while she learns her human will return in the daily household routine.

In the evening, she calmly enters her crate where she sleeps quietly all night. She is housebroken and is accustomed to using a dog door. This gal is a quick learner who will add fun and spice to an active household.

Zubin Head
More

Adopted - May 2021

Zubin

Zubin is a stunning four-year-old Belgian Malinois mix. Weighing in at 110 pounds, he is a big stocky boy. Zubin came to us from a local area shelter so nothing is known about his background. He was likely an outdoor only dog because everything in the home seems unfamiliar to him. He originally didn't really want to come inside, and while still unsure, he is coming in more and more, and will settle if you close the door and shut him in.

Zubin doesn't know any commands, and while he seems to enjoy walks, he has no leash manners and will cut you off if he wants to go investigate something. Fortunately, he doesn't pull much. Zubin could stand to get in better shape, he tends to slow down and walk behind you for the third mile. Out on a walk squirrels are of interest to him, he currently avoids the roosters, and he has not barked or reacted to dogs who bark or react to him.

Zubin likes to play ball, but doesn't really bring it back very well yet. Be careful if you have it in your hand, sometimes he will jump to grab it not realizing that there is a hand there as well. Zubin doesn't seem to have much interest in other toys at this time, but that may change as he learns to engage more with his human.

Zubin gets along with the large male and female shepherds in his foster home. He likes the female, and the old guy, but is a little unsure about the younger confident males, and tries to avoid them, although every day he mingles with them a little more. Zubin seems like he could live as an only dog, or with a female dog buddy.

Zubin is definitely a work in progress. This boy is sweet, funny, and really wants to be loved by his human. He is also unsure, somewhat stubborn, and a little pushy. This boy needs rules and structure, training and exercise to be the best boy he can be.

This is a Level 3 Dog. Please be sure you understand what this level of dog requires.
