ZalinaZalina Head

Zalina appears to be a German Shepherd/Malinois mix with a golden coat and black muzzle, on a solid frame, weighing approximately 65 lbs. She came from a Modesto area shelter, so nothing is known of her background. The shelter listed her as a 1 year old, but her teeth and behavior indicate she may be closer to 2 years.

Zalina came with no house manners and didn't understand basic commands. Within a few days, she got better in the house, is sleeping through the night in a crate, and is beginning to respond to basic commands. She also walks nicely on a leash. When excited, she can be mouthy and will still jump on people, so she should not go to a home with small children. This girl loves human company and will shadow her foster mom throughout the house. She has had no accidents in the house, so she may be housebroken. When the other dogs in the house come by, she sometimes lets out a low grumble toward them but, with corrections, is showing signs of improvement. Zalina does not seem to know how to play with toys or other dogs. A very big plus so far is that she does not see the need to chew on everything and become destructive, even if left alone.

Zalina will cry if left alone in a room too long crated, but overall is a quiet dog. When outside, she may whimper, but she has not barked at anything so far. She is learning to enjoy going places in the car and rides nicely. Her foster home has several cats and she basically ignores them. If one of the other dogs decides to chase a moving cat, she may join in. Continued socialization, obedience training and exercise will be needed to make Zalina into the perfect dog.
