TysonTyson Head

Tyson is a classically handsome 5 year old male. He weighs around 80-85 pounds, and has very classic features and markings. He was an owner turn-in to Sacramento SPCA with his Sheltie buddy and seems to like small dogs.

His basic temperament is non-dominant, moderate to low energy, well- mannered, and a bit of a "house princess." He prefers the couch or your bed to his own dog bed, but is respectful if you tell him no. He will sleep quietly in a crate or in your bedroom with you, and appears to be housebroken. However, if left loose inside the house when you are gone, he may explore the garbage can or table top. He also is a bit of a chow-hound, so dog food needs to be well secured, or he may obsess over it.

It appears he was not socialized much outside his original home, so new people, places and things require an adjustment period for him. But because his basic temperament is good, he copes well if given a little patience and encouragement in new situations.

He does not jump up on people, and he is not a very "licky" dog, but he will come to you for cuddles once he warms up to you. He prefers the company of people as much as possible, and would be happy to be an only dog. He is currently in a home with another adult female German Shepherd, but he has no interest in play or toys. He is a little clingy with his people/person, so he will push in for attention if he can. Large dogs that are high energy or playful he shies away from, so he would not be comfortable at a dog park.

He is a little reserved when meeting new people, but warms up fairly quickly. He has liked everyone, young and old, that has met him with a calm demeanor. Unpredictable or sudden movements make him nervous, so he would do best in a home without small children or high volume. He does not appear to have any leash training, but walks without pulling on the leash, and knows how to eagerly sit for his meals. He is learning how to climb into a vehicle to go for rides, and he does ride politely once he is in.

Tyson needs someone who will commit to some basic socializing time to help him gain confidence out in the world.

Tyson may be able to live with dog-savvy cats provided he's carefully supervised. He will chase them if they run but appears to want to play with them when up close.
