Seymour

Seymour is a cute, mostly German Shepherd mix boy, about a year old and 57 pounds. He is black and silver with a white patch on his chest and socks on his feet. He is probably mixed with Border Collie, which makes him a highly intelligent, very busy boy. He was an unclaimed stray from the Modesto area, so nothing is known of his background.

When he came into our rescue, he had absolutely no training or manners, but was very interested in people and affectionate with everyone. He has learned to walk nicely on leash, ride quietly in a car, and sleep in a crate since coming into our program.

He plays nicely with the other dogs, but prefers to play with the females and may need supervision with other unknown male dogs. He loves jogging on the treadmill so much that if given the chance, he will go stand on it, then look and whine at whoever is nearby to turn it on. He is very food and praise motivated, so training him is pretty easy. He has great eye contact, and is very interested in whatever task his foster mom is doing and in whatever she may have in her hands. When he gets excited he has a tendency to softly grab your hand or any article of clothing that may be hanging from you, so he may be too excitable for a home with small children. He appears very interested in livestock, but leaves them alone and returns to you when called. Under supervision, he has been fine with small dogs, unknown how he is with cats.

Seymour would do best in a home with someone around most of the time, and/or able to take him to work with them. He enjoys being on the go most of the day and is very aware of things going on around him. He would be a great hiking partner, and loves to wear his backpack full of cold drinks! He takes this job very seriously, as he actually stands very still and displays great patience while his foster mom puts his pack on him.

With continued training, and an active family, he will make the best companion dog one could imagine!
