Perun

Perun is an unclaimed stray from the Sacramento area, so nothing is known of his background. This lean, handsome black and tan young man is 12 to 18 months old. Weighing approximately 75 pounds, he could stand to fill out a bit.

He is friendly, confident and upbeat. He enjoys attention from his foster parent, giving brief licks in return. He stays near and follows but is not clingy. During free time, he checks back with his foster regularly for confirmation and pats, and comes readily when called. He is just beginning to learn basics such as leash skills, sit, and wait, but doesn't pull on the leash. He is responsive to training, takes correction well if it is given clearly, and follows the examples of the resident dogs to quickly learn new things.

Perun is well housebroken, and has basic house manners. Provided his person is in the room, he settles well in a crate after very brief complaining, and sleeps quietly through the night. He rides well in the car, and gets in readily, though still unsure about jumping down when it is time to get out. He has been going to work with his foster dad, and is good about settling and waiting quietly in the office with the other dogs.

He has good energy, and enjoys vigorous play with the spunky resident female German Shepherd at his foster home. He may challenge other authoritative male dogs during play, and isn't taking any guff. If living with other dogs, he would probably do best with a female playmate of a large breed, or perhaps a non-dominant male.

Perun is learning his way around new environments, and he approaches new things like stairs with the cute seriousness of a puppy. He is working on unlearning some puppy habits, including being mouthy, getting underfoot, and crawling into laps.

No cats or other small furry critters for this young man.
