DylanDylan Head

Dylan is a very handsome 1 year old male long haired GSD (possible mix). He came to us as an unclaimed stray from the Modesto Shelter. Even with his handsome long coat, Dylan has required surprisingly little day to day maintenance. We have not found him to shed much but come spring he may shed quite a bit as many shepherds do. For now just a light brushing is all he has needed.

Under his long flowing locks, Dylan has the build of a canine athlete. He has great jumping ability (he doesn't need a running start to jump over a 3' baby gate), and a lot of stamina and incredible strength. He could easily compete in agility, rally, or fly ball and might make an excellent running partner.

Dylan came to us without much in the way of manners. Since living with the two resident dogs in his foster home, Dylan has started to pick up most of the basics (sit, stay, come, down, leave it/take it) and is now walking nicely on a leash. He has also learned some commands that help him stay calmer when eating. He occasionally gets car sick in stop and go traffic but keeping him by an open window seems to minimize carsickness.

When left on his own, he can be a wee bit destructive, as young dogs often are and he does best when he can be with his owner most of the time. When Dylan thinks he is in trouble, he drops to the ground quickly and hangs his head low. Because he is so sensitive, he is easily corrected and responds to a firm, but not too loud, voice correction.

Dylan prefers chewing on hard bones to plush or squeaky toys, but has also been known to occasionally abscond with the odd shoe or slipper or dinner bowl. At bedtime, Dylan would much rather stay up and cuddle or just sit at your feet than retire, but has learned to go to his crate willingly as long as he gets a good night kiss.

Dylan is learning to not jump up on people when excited. He is also learning to overcome his "nibbling" habit, which he uses to express affection, but can sometimes be annoying to his people or pack mates. We are teaching him to give kisses instead of nibbles. Because of his nibbling, Dylan might not be appropriate in a home with young children.

Dylan has chased the resident cats. He might be able to live in a home with a dog savvy cat but would need to be tested with any potential resident cats to be sure.

Dylan will thrive with a family that will include him in daily outings and activities as well as continue his training. He has so much love to share and with the right match will bring endless joy, love and laughter to his new forever family.
