BaxterBaxter Head

Baxter is a 2-3 yr old black male Shepherd weighing approximately 70 lbs. He came without a scrapbook of his past, but he is revealing unique features of his personality each day. Since arriving into his foster home, he is making progress with the daily human-dog routines.

Baxter appeared to have limited exposures to the world. He is timid with new experiences and may vocalize with a low grumble or bark when meeting some strangers. Because of this uncertainty, he would do best in a home without young children. Guidance and corrections under confident leadership rapidly redirect his focus, allowing him to replace his hesitation with friendly greetings and gentle wags.

With his timid nature, he seeks security in the company of his connected human. So much so, this boy will jump a fence faster than a squirrel and knock on your front door to join your side. If you open the car door, he's IN faster than the wind. While this boy has shown ingenuity to escape containment, he will eventually settle down and learn to wait patiently for your return. Upon reuniting, he may need occasional reminders to not jump or engage in puppy-mouthy excitement. Given his strong desire to be with his human, and his ability to adapt under leadership, Baxter has been accepted as a candidate for service dog training.

Baxter plays well with other dogs, large and small, but occasionally has bursts where he can play rough. Since he is so human bonded, he responds very well to corrections. His participation with play is short, and he quickly exits to rest quietly to simply observe others.

This guy enjoys his daily walks and does very well on a leash. He has learned to ignore other dogs but may whine with uncertainty. In the home setting, he slumbers quietly on his dog bed and has excellent house manners. Bring out a ball and he will show off his talent to 'fetch and catch' with delight! Baxter sleeps calmly in his crate all night. He is housebroken and accustomed to a dog door.

If you are looking for a dedicated companion who is eager to learn, this boy would love a chance to join you right by your side.

Cats and small critters unknown.
