RafeGSD Head

Rafe and two of his litter mates were pulled from the Modesto shelter so nothing is known of their background, or their exact breed. We rescued them from the shelter at around 8 to 10 weeks old, so they are now about 4 months old. Based on his current size and weight, we believe Rafe will mature to a mid-sized boy at around 60 lbs.

Rafe has a uniquely calm and quiet disposition for a young puppy. He rarely jumps up for attention. Instead he will amble over and sit in front of you, then look up at you with his soft chocolate eyes and wait for you to pet him. He loves to have his belly rubbed and get as close to your chest with his body as possible. He will put his paws around your neck and nuzzle your ear if you let him.

Rafe has been good with all the dogs he's met and enjoys puppy play time, but he mostly prefers the company of people. He has been very calm and well mannered around the small children he has met at our adoption days. He has also spent some time in a home with cats and did fine with them as well.

Most of the time, he has free access to both inside and out through a dog door in his foster home. With this he knows how to go outside when he needs to go potty. A home without a dog door or free access, will need some next-level potty training. He sleeps freely at night, usually preferring the dog bed in his foster mom's bedroom or in the hallway where he can keep an eye on things at night. For short periods when no human is home to supervise, he is doing well in the back yard with the company of another foster dog.

Rafe will bark when he hears a noise he doesn't recognize, so be careful changing the ring tone on your phone or alarm clock, or you may get more than your phone going off! He already is a good alert barker, but stops as soon as you let him know its okay.

Rafe is a low energy boy looking for laid back family to just hang out with. He likes car rides, strolls around the block, and cuddling with his people.
