NinerNiner Head

Niner is a handsome, affectionate, athletic 4 year old who is a little smaller than average at around 70 pounds. He was an unclaimed stray from the Modesto shelter, so we know nothing about his history. Niner is housebroken and quickly adapted to his foster home's routine.

He frequently goes all out when he gets the chance and loves typical dog activities which include hiking, fetch, car rides, and the beach. Since coming to his foster home in the mountains, his energy on the trails has increased substantially, plus he sometimes shows a competitive, rambunctious side. If you are looking for a jogging/training partner, this may be your guy. Basic training is not too challenging due to his intelligence and food motivation. Dog games like agility or flyball might also suit him, although there has not been the opportunity to find out for certain.

Indoors, he is more interested in people than dogs. He lets you enjoy your breakfast yet is excited to get the day going afterwards. When it comes to his people, Niner can be a bit pushy for attention especially when other dogs are around. He may try to climb into your lap if you are showing another dog attention even if he already has one of your hands to himself. He also has a good alarm bark, knows how to use a dog door, and sometimes likes keeping a Kong toy nearby. Niner has been fine in his crate when people are away, but he has not been tested alone, loose in the house.

Niner should be okay as an only dog. His social skills have been progressing nicely, and he might also fit with a big dog who understands his competitive nature. He has done well with his pack and other big dogs while outdoors. On his one camping trip, he handled nights in the tent well as long as he got to curl up next to me and occasionally rest his head on my leg as I slept.

Due to his occasional rambunctiousness, only more mature kids are recommended. Niner is not for couch potatoes. Niner must have an active person in his life who can manage his energy. Again, he might be okay with another dog as long as he or she can also handle him. He sometimes tries to be everywhere at once and likes chasing wildlife, big and small. Cats and critters are unlikely to be compatible.
