HawkeyeHawkeye Head

Hawkeye could be your Mr. Right if you like them tall, dark and handsome! Very personable at approximately 12-18 months of age, Hawkeye seems to be completely house trained in his current foster home with no accidents. Often crates himself when looking for a place to nap. He does spend the night crated and has been quiet all night. His leash manners are good and he's learning some basic obedience, "sits" "downs" "up-sit" "hup" "Pfui/leave it" Hawkeye has unusually good eye contact so we're building on that aptitude for great attention by teaching him a "ready" command for eyes on handler. Also learning to "wait" at thresholds and we are working on building reliable "stay" control exercises.

Hawkeye greets friendly strangers appropriately and we're working on learning to meet new friendly dogs with as much grace. Has prey drive and requires a home with no cats or small animals. Seems comfortable on variable surfaces and no obvious issues were noted with noise on the 4th of July. Respects 6' solid wood fencing although he has not been left alone outside unattended. Happy to hang out at your feet assuming he also gets regular sessions of exercise, easy going. Rarely Hawkeye attempts to jump on (mostly his favorite) people but he seems to be responding well to training and given the alternative command to "Sit!" at the right instant this occasional behavior can be largely avoided.

Hawkeye enjoys soft stuffed squeaky toys (like gutting them!) but shows nominal interest in balls. Is quickly learning to leave rug fringe alone and keep his feet on the floor when passing kitchen counters and bedspreads. Verbal corrections well respected. Food motivated but with low to moderate working drive. Normally good with most medium to large dogs, especially females. So far no digging noted and only minor guidance and redirection needed with inappropriate chewing. Soft mouth when given treats by hand, Hawkeye has well tolerated regular handling and cooperates with grooming including bathing, ear cleaning, brushing and nail trimming. Affectionate guy, some days he can be something of a licker! Great companionship for a moderately active home, no problem issues noted with barking although he will alarm bark once he settles in. Enjoys travel and settles nicely in the car.
