Dillinger - Rainbow Fund DogDillinger Head

Dillinger is a gorgeous, 4-5 year old black and red male German Shepherd. He was an owner surrender to a local shelter when his family could no longer care for him. Dillinger is housebroken, crate-trained, and knows basic commands such as Sit, Down and Stay. He walks fairly well on a leash, and likes going for rides in the car and will stick his head all of the way out the window if you let him. When crated or kenneled he is reactive to other dogs, but has been fine with them outside the kennel.

Dillinger is a Special Needs Dog who suffers from Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) (Maldigestion Disorder) in dogs, but this does not seem to slow him down much. EPI occurs when the pancreas does not produce the digestive enzymes necessary to obtain the nutrients needed from food. Once diagnosed, EPI is treated by adding prescription enzymes to his meals every day.

Dillinger gets along with all of the large male and female dogs in his foster home so far. Occasionally he gets a little obnoxious with another of the dogs, but accepts appropriate correction well. This boy has some prey drive, so no cats or other small furry critters for him. He also still jumps up on people, so may be a little much for small children. Unknown how he is with small dogs. He would like an active family who will include him in their activities.

Dillinger has bounced from home to home, probably in part due to his medical issues never being diagnosed or treated properly. When Dillinger was surrendered to the shelter he weighed 45 lbs. He is now up to 65 lbs, but could probably use 10 or 15 more pounds. Dillinger really just wants a permanent home to call his own, so he can really settle in and become the awesome dog we know he can. Donations to our Rainbow Fund help us save dogs like Dillinger.
