BenjiBenji Head

Benji is a mid-sized, dark black and tan male from a Sacramento shelter. He was an unclaimed stray so nothing is known about his history, but he is estimated to be about three years old.

Benji is an 80 pound goofball with all the spunk and spirit of youth but none of the bad puppy habits. Despite coming to us without any training, he's been an excellent houseguest and appears to be housebroken.

He will now go in the crate on his own, and his leash manners have improved enough that he makes an excellent hiking buddy for his foster mom. He is quiet and settles well in the house, but his radar ears are always listening for the jingle of car keys that means it's time to go. While he hasn't quite learned the most efficient way to get in the car, he happily scrambles in for the ride. We have yet to see if he's a true water lover, as the water has been too cold and fast for swimming, but he doesn't hesitate to get his feet wet on hikes along the river.

The main things this boy needs are continued training and socialization. Novel sights and sounds can startle him; however, he makes a quick recovery and his confidence is improving with each new experience. Overall he is a curious, happy guy who loves to go with his people. Given consistent leadership and structure, he will be an easy companion to live with.

Benji gets along with a stable pack consisting of large dogs, both male and female, so living with another dog, preferrably a large female, of the right match may be a possibility. He has exhibited high prey drive, so no small dogs and no cats. He needs a home with adult-sized people, so no children under 12 for this boy.

NO SMALL DOGS, NO CATS, NO SMALL CHILDREN.

This is a Level 2 Dog
