OceanOcean Head

Ocean is an adorable black and tan male, weighing about 57 lbs and is 14 months old. He was surrendered to a shelter when his femur was broken after being hit by a car and his family couldn't afford the surgery. Lucky for Ocean, UC Davis was able to do the repair to his leg on a grant for the shelter. His femur now has plates and screws holding it together. Six weeks post-surgery X-rays show he is healing well. The UC Davis vets also noted osteoarthritis in his elbows, but he has no signs of problems or pain from them. He is restricted to leash activity outside until November. Given his leg and elbow issues, future high impact activity must be limited and he should be kept on the thin side.

Ocean loves to go for walks and is up to almost a mile. He still acts like a puppy and wants to put anything loose in his mouth like sticks, yard bark, leaves from branches handing at his eye level, and remote controls. He has plenty of toys and nylabones to redirect him in the house. He's learning not to nibble on people when excited and to stay off the human's bed. He is housebroken, crate trained and knows some commands.

He startles easily at new noises or some object he's uncertain of. Making him confront these things, helps him overcome his fear of them. He is a good alarm barker and hears everything. Ocean takes some time to warm up to people he doesn't know, however, he can be bribed with a good treat. The fast movement and loud noises from small children make Ocean nervous, so a home with small children is not advised.

Ocean meets all new dogs easily. He prefers dogs his size or smaller however, with his demeanor he could be taught to leave with cats. Small critters unknown. A plan for further training, socialization, regular walks will be needed for his forever home. This is one fun dog and will be worth the time to make him the best time ever.

This is a Level 2 Dog.
