inaina Head

Mina is a 9 month old, petite black and tan female weighing only 45 lbs. She has a bit of an amazing story. She somehow ended up on a high school campus and for more than a month she was able to avoid being caught. She survived on the food the students left behind. Some community members tried for weeks to befriend her, but they could just never get quite close enough. She would engage and play but kept herself literally just slightly out of reach. One evening she found herself cornered in the tennis courts. Thankfully a group of people attending a baseball game were able to corner her. Once cornered she became submissive and she was able to be caught. The good Samaritan who was primarily responsible for helping this girl, kept her for the required hold period and no one came to claim her. She took care of some of her mandatory vaccinations and contacted us to transfer her over.

Mina currently lives in a foster home with 2 large males, one female shepherd and 2 cats. She is great with the cats and loves and plays so well with her foster siblings. She is crate trained, potty trained and sleeps quietly on a dog bed in her foster mom's room. She loves to ride in the car and walks nicely on a leash. Mina is very shy and skittish, she takes a little bit to warm up to people but is friendly and sweet. She is very sweet, her fear is manifested in flight first, then submissiveness.

Mina has made very good progress in her foster home, but there is still more work to be done. She corrects easily and is very in tune with her foster mom paying very close attention to everything she does. Most of her progress is directly related to her observing the other shepherds and learning from them. For example, once she sees the other dogs' approach for some love and treats, she will then approach. She will do best in a home with a stable, male dog to mentor her and help her continue to gain confidence. Ideally in a home where perhaps someone is home part of the day. No small children as she is cautious and startles easily. Given some love, patience, continued training and socialization to build her confidence Mina will make a wonderful addition to a lucky family.

This is a Level 2 Dog.
