MadridMadrid Head

Madrid is an all-white, handsome male who weighs approximately 65 lbs and is 18-24 months old. Since he came from a local shelter, we know nothing of his background.

His sweet disposition made him a staff favorite at the shelter. Madrid appears to be completely blind, but his eyes do not seem to cause him any discomfort and so far they do not have any physical symptoms that require treatment. Madrid's visual limitations make him more tentative in new situations, but he is adapting very quickly in his foster home. He had his foster home "mapped out" within just a few days. The steps going out into the back yard were a bit more challenging, but this curious, determined boy soon mastered the steps and the doggie door as well!

He is living in a foster home with two adult German Shepherds and another youngster and he gets along splendidly with everyone in the house. He met the new dogs in the home with ease. He learns a lot from following the other dogs, so he would love to have another confident dog companion in his forever home so he can shadow and learn more quickly. He is extremely affectionate and playfully follows his foster mom around the house, eagerly seeking pats and attention. He does tend to get under your feet a lot, so care should be taken with anyone unstable on their feet (people with walkers, toddlers, etc). Establishing and following a routine has helped him to be more comfortable in his surroundings and as he is becoming more confident, he is working on boundaries and personal space. His exuberant personality makes him a joy to be around, but he sometimes needs to be reminded when play time is over. Being a young, enthusiastic boy he sometimes uses his mouth when playing or showing affection, but corrects easily and is learning to play appropriately with his human.

Madrid appears housebroken with use of the dog door, sleeps on a dog bed next to his foster mom at night, but would easily accept a crate at bedtime as well. He walks fairly well on leash and would love to be included in family activities. He rides nicely in the car, but is still getting used to "loading up" and is getting help from his foster mom. With continued training and socialization, Madrid will be a wonderful companion dog, as he is very affectionate and social with both humans and other dogs.

Cats and small critters unknown.

This is a Level 2 Dog.
