Aside from our regular Saturday Adoption Days, sometimes we go places and do things as part of our community and educational outreach, and sometimes we get together just to have fun with our dogs.
Here's what we've been up to over the last year!
GCGSR Meet & Greet at Roseville
Pet Food Express Grand Opening

It was a very busy day at Pet Food Express, lots of foot traffic. The store hosted a fabulous event with K-9 demonstrations, a bulldog riding a skateboard, and a Miniature Pincher wedding with 25 MinPins in attendance. There were probably 8-10 different rescues there with quite a few other food and product vendors. Mix96 radio station was there broadcasting for a few hours and handing out prizes.
We had a fairly busy day at our booth. A lot of people were curious about the dogs and wanted to see and meet them. We handed out a lot of cards, and gave out a lot of information. Eight volunteers with seven rescue dogs attended, and two of our dogs went to a new Foster-to-Adopt home!

Society of Stanislaus County Petoberfest
Saturday, October 8th, 2011
We had a wonderful day at the Petoberfest Community Event yesterday. The park and the weather were beautiful. We had a steady flow of foot traffic through our booth most of the day. Many SHARES cards were distributed to the general public, and there was a lot of interest in two of our girl dogs, Banda and Sequoia.
Six of our volunteers were present with several available dogs and several ambassador dogs owned by our volunteers. We spoke to a reporter from the Turlock Journal about the group, and we made $26 on the gift basket raffle, which was 3rd most tickets of the bunch!

AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day
September 17, 2011 in Sacramento
We
held a Dog Etiquette 101 demonstration in conjunction with AKC's Responsible Dog Ownership Days
at our Sacramento Adoption Day on Saturday, September 17th, in Rancho
Cordova.
The demonstration was well-attended and was a big hit! Several families with children took home coloring books and crayons for the kids, and handouts for adults.
Modesto Dog Park Fun Raiser
August 20, 2011
We had a lovely day at the future site of the Modesto Dog Park, with a cool, comfortable spot in the shade, lots of foot traffic and we socialized with a lot of people!
Our Community Event turned into a mini meet and greet with White Comet and Blizzard making the rounds to charm the public. Zoe, Keona and Jake, our pack of faithful ambassador dogs, were also in attendance for half of the event, along with 7 of our volunteers.
A wonderful time was had by all!

GCGSR Fireworks Booth, Modesto
July 2011
We had a lot of fun staffing our first Fireworks Booth during the week before the Fourth of July. We were located at the Sparkles Auto & Pet Wash on Coffee Road.
Lots of volunteers, friends and relatives, and a few ambassador dogs braved the July heat and helped to make our Fireworks Booth a success.
We're looking forward to doing it again next year!
GCGSR Handling & Training Seminar
April 30th, 2011
We had quite a nice group of 20 people and 22 dogs for our handling & training seminar, perfect weather, and the perfect location; a huge, fenced piece of property with lots of room for dogs to run after we were done.
We all sat around in a large circle with dogs alongside. We discussed the difference between temperament and behavior, the principles of keeping dogs balanced, and how to deal with shy, anxious or clingy dogs. Some folks took turns running the gauntlet by walking their dog around the inside of the circle with the dog on the outside, and teaching the dog to pay attention to the handler instead of the other dogs. We talked about training specific issues, and helped individual handlers with some issues they were having with their dogs, and then finally broke out the chuck-its and the balls for some exercise. The humans learned a lot and the dogs had a great time!
GCGSR 3rd Anniversary Walk

Wowie Zowie, did we have a good day! What fun! Perfect weather, around 50 people and 50 dogs showed up for the Anniversary Dog Walk, and it went off beautifully. We had several people comment to us about how impressive it was to see that many people walking their well-mannered German Shepherds and honorary GSDs down one of the main streets in Modesto. The refreshments afterwards were crowd-pleasers, as well. Great job to Prez Mike and everyone who helped make it a success! :)
Our adoption day was a success, too! We finalized the adoption on 7 dogs, and found new FTA homes on 6 dogs, maybe 7. Check out our photo album (may take a few moments to load.)
