KinsleyKinsley Head

Special Needs

Kinsley is a 12 - 13 month old mostly black with tan markings, female German Shepherd. She was surrendered to the Oakdale shelter when the owners no longer wanted to take care of her.

She has had surgery on her right elbow due to elbow dysplasia (Ununited Anconeal Process), which has healed very nicely and doesn't seem to slow her down in the least. The vet report lists that Kinsley has bilateral medial patella luxation (MPL), right hip dysplasia and an ataxic gait. The bilateral MPL and hip dysplasia are being managed with glucosamine, supplements and coconut oil and will need to be monitored, as she gets older. The ataxic gait makes her seem a little clumsy at times and could be the cause of her having difficulties judging distances like jumping in the car.

None of the things listed above seem to slow her down at all. She loves to blow bubbles in her water bowl when getting a drink which we find absolutely adorable. She loves to play with her foster family, go on walks, loves attention, toys and is very eager to please.

Kinsley has a lot of love to give to a special home. She has a very sweet and loving soul, which is evident when playing with the resident puppy and her toys. She takes great care of the puppy and cleans her daily.

She is currently living with 4 other German Shepherds ranging from 3 months to 10 years old and two cats. A proper introduction will need to be done with smaller pets in the home. With time and training she has learned to walk past the cat in her foster home without showing much interest in him. She does try to smell the cat when they are in a common area, if he doesn't want her to bother him she is told to leave it and she moves on to the next fun adventure.

She walks well on a leash and knows basic commands. Due to her age daily exercise would be a must to keep her happy!
