ElyEly Head

Special Needs

Ely is a handsome black and tan male about 5 years old, and currently weighs in at about 70 pounds. He is an owner surrender to the Turlock shelter for medical reasons.

He came to rescue and upon our regular vet check up, he was found to have Canine Megaesophagus. Megaesophagus is where the muscles of the esophagus fail and it cannot propel food or water into the stomach. The result is that ingested food sits in the esophagus within the chest cavity and never makes it to the stomach. Canine Megaesophagus can be managed and most dogs may lead a relatively normal life.

For more information on Megaesophagus please visit www.caninemegaesophagus.org.

Ely is very friendly, affectionate and does not bark at all. He loves his crate, car rides and his Bailey Chair. He is currently in a great foster home with 4 other dogs and 3 cats.

He is a great companion to other dogs, but would rather be with his people than play with his canine housemates.

Ely could be an only dog, as he is more people oriented rather than "pack" oriented.

This is a Level 2 Dog
